Mattress scam?

I have just answered my door to a slightly scruffy man trying to give away a van load of new Beddy Buys mattresses. He said his manager had told him to get rid of them in the village. The marked van was parked outside, but it seems too good an offer to be true. I do know people who might have been grateful for one, but said no thank you. Do you think this is a bit dodgy? I looked up the firm on line and it is a legitimate business. Should I email them?

They may have been stolen- if you can email them I would. If it is legitimate it does not matter but they may want to involve the police if they were stolen.

It's a scam, people like this have been round our way. Let your local police know.

Reported to Police!

A couple of times when I have been out walking to the shops, a large white van has pulled up and a man asked me if I wanted to buy a mattress. DH was parking the car at the shops recently and a man asked if he wanted to buy a TV.

We heard about this and have seen details reported, it is a scam, apparently they get horrible old yukky mattresses and have a new cover put on and then try to sell them off with different excuses like the ones mentioned.

Yes I have heard about this scam too . Skanky mattresses wrapped up but by the time you notice they are long gone

It is really sad that it happened to you. Many people are ready to cheat you for their own purpose and it is very important aware others also. I think it is a good idea to share experience on www.holysmoke.org/ by creating an alert.

I’ve had people pull up at my house and say that they are lost, we are in the countryside and then ask if I want to buy all sorts “No thanks” is the stock answer. It’s awful to say but never trust someone knocking on your door uninvited, long gone are they days of the Betterware man and his tiny little tins of polish for us kids!
