Just received an e-mail telling me my tv licence expires in 2 days with details how to renew through a bank.
As It is several years since we paid for a licence, this is obviously bogus, the fact that the tv may go off at Christmas may panic some folk.
Having read the schedules it may be a blessing.

There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago. It is a scam,

Yes it's a scam. I had this email. It was very convincing. It said that my usual direct debit had been refused by my bank and I should click the link to renew. I didn't of course but rang my bank. They confirmed it was a scam

I received the same

I've just received a text from 'Asda' saying they are 'trying to find me' as I have won a prize in their raffle. I haven't entered a raffle. Another one to beware of.

Watch out for the refund scam on your phone or by text from national insurance.

Known scam.

I had it yesterday, saying my direct debit had been declined. But i had checked my bank acc previous day and all my dds had been paid and I had plenty money in the account. These scams are very genuine looking, but no-one should ever ever put their bank details in to any unexpected email. Often a clue that its a scam is that its not addressed to you in person.

I just love the many letters and emails I get from a bank person in Nigeria or China telling me that an unknown deceased relative has left a lot of money in their bank and I am the nearest relative they can trace, as I have a similar surname. All I have to do is send them my bank details so that the money can be transferred.
HO HO HO! Happy Christmas everyone.

We had a new one the other day - the caller from an 0154 number said he was from the Ministry of Justice and they had found that our bank had overcharged us - doubtless he would have asked for our bank details next if we hadn't cut him off!

Scam, no doubt about it. Leave well alone.

Yes, it is a scam. I’ve had it twice. Send it on to Action Fraud then delete it.

If you click on the sender at the top of the email it will reveal the senders email. The scam from the TV licence on my email said it had come from au I.e. Australia.

There was an astrology page on Facebook recently and if I wanted a free reading I had to put my date of birth, sex and other personal info. I stopped because I was giving info that could be used in a scam.

Send them all the wrong details A60 and let them waste their time trying to input it

I believe the scams ask for bank details. I've just got an email from the DVLA about car tax which isn't due until January. Luckily it isn't asking for details but I'm keeping a closer eye than usual on my bank statements.

It's a scam

At this time of year when lots of orders are being placed with Amazon beware of scam emails purportedly from them, quoting non existent order numbers and asking you to click on a link regarding your order. I had one that said unless I cancelled my request for Amazon prime plus by clicking a link within 24 hours they would deduct £79 a month from my account. I just deleted it.

I always run suspect email addresses through the scam checker. If in doubt do not open!

I had the same tv licence email last week. This is a scam and I forwarded it on to the phishing department of my provider. Silly thing is, I don’t pay this particular bil!!

Mapleleaf Sat 22-Dec-18 16:45:37

bill, even!

KatyK Sat 22-Dec-18 17:11:35

We've had the Amazon one.

Herbie9 Sat 22-Dec-18 17:18:14

Have had a few emails recently looking very genuine from my internet provider saying I needed to update my details or I would be disconnected on - date given. The first one received was just after I had changed my contract so I contacted my supplier who confirmed it was a scam and other worried customers had received same. Clever scam?

Marieeliz Sat 22-Dec-18 17:24:20

Yes had this a week or so ago. Reported it on here, I haven't paid TV licence for 4 years I am 79!

4allweknow Sat 22-Dec-18 18:08:12
