A woman in a persistent vegetative state for at least the past ten years has just given birth. It is rumoured that all male care staff will have to give DNA samples. I am appalled that anyone thought it was okay to take advantage of an unconscious woman in this way? www.foxnews.com/health/ceo-of-arizona-care-facility-where-woman-in-vegetative-state-reportedly-gave-birth-resigns

How shocking and sad.

There will always be people like this. Hospitals will attract a small percentage of deviants, serial killers like Dr Shipman and a number of nurses in many countries who risk killing people for the excitement of a resucitation.

Sexual abuse like this is not unknown and patients in this country have claimed of sexual assaults by staff when they are semiconscious or sedated.

I have been reading about this, there has been persistent abuse at this facility and covered up by one of the directors. He has since resigned.
Sadly MOnica is right, wherever there are vulnerable people some plausible person will find his/her way to exploit them. I worked with vulnerable adults and was involved in such a case, the man had previously worked for the ambulance service who had concerns about him but failed to pass them on.

How appalling! What a pity such men can't be identified and branded so we'd all know them for what they are.

Abusers of all sexes are hateful. What is shocking in this case is that there has been persistent abuse at this facility and covered up by one of the directors. He has since resigned.

He should have been charged.

It's possible he will be MOnica I haven't read any more about it. I don't think he was an abuser but stopped staff reporting abuse.

This is shocking.
It reminded me of Savile and how he prowled the hospitals in the UK.

Rumoured!
All males who had any opportunity to assault this woman should have to give DNA samples. Not just care staff but also cleaners, delivery men, visitors to other patients etc.

This is a violent, disgusting crime and all males who are known to have had opportunity should be checked.

I would think it needs to be just those who had the opportunity to be with her first Farnorth no point in wasting money on all those tests at once if none of her ‘carers’ DNA match then definitely open it to others
Yes it immediately made me think of Saville
The man who resigned should also be procecuted it made me think of the bishops in the priest abuse cases

Absolutely horrible but yes it goes on sad interesting how the report states the facility will be investigated for possible sex abuse I don’t think there’s much possible about it

What is quite disturbing is that this has been described as "assumed sexual assault". If a woman has been a vegetative state for 14 years, it is rape. It is also concerning that, apparently, no carers registered the fact that she was pregnant until she went into labour.

I agree absent how could the carers not have noticed her pregnancy, or lack of menstruation for nine months. Of course it could be there is a high turnover of staff - like the UK most of these jobs are minimum wage. Poor woman going into labour with no analgesia.

I can't bear to think about how many times she might have been abused over the years. sad
