White cars

We're thinking of changing our car and seen one we like very much. But it's white. We've never had a white car before as it doesn't seem a sensible colour for messy people like us who are a bit lax when it comes to car cleaning.

But I knew someone who said his white car stayed cleaner than any other colour he'd had, but can this be true? Did he lie?

Does anyone have a white car and if so are they a pain to keep clean or no worse than any other colour?

Silver cars stay clean looking. White cars show the dirt!

MiniMoon Thu 06-Jun-19 22:05:27

We have a silver grey car that looks white from some angles. It seems to stay cleaner than our son's black car.
Thinking of all the cars we've owned, we've only had one other colour, green.

imho who cares if it is a great car at a good price.

My daughter has had several white cars, and they always look filthy, but I always have black cars, and my car is always filthy as well

But then, we do live in a rural area, if you’re not splashing through muddy lanes you should be okay!

Blast! We can have the white one next week, but otherwise will have to wait two or three months. I want it now!! (Stamps feet)

Sara65 Thu 06-Jun-19 22:08:27

Just go for it! Plenty of car washes around!

Black is the worst! I've had a couple, and they even show dust you know the sort that comes in when the wind is blowing from the Sahara (or something!)

Have whatever pleases you best, Nfk! smile

(Can't imagine ever having a brand new car!)

Ps, don't go for red (unless metallic) red is terrible for fading and going sort of "flat"

I'm on my third white car. It was the only colour on offer unless I wanted to pay an extra £650, so white it was!

I don't notice the dirt particularly. I get it washed when it becomes hard to avoid getting dirt on my clothes or shopping, and that would stand whatever the colour.

Ha, yes, Phoenix! My Dh has a black car. It recently turned a greeny-yellow when it got covered in a thick coat of pollen. Even heavy rain didn't manage to shift it. confused

I have a black car and it always looks scruffy, although I
clean it regularly, my daughter has a white one, rarely cleans
it and always looks better than mine!

Tangerine Thu 06-Jun-19 22:34:22

I don't mind cleaning my car regularly so I think white is fine. If you're not keen on cleaning cars, perhaps think again. The main thing is "does it drive well?"

Mine is blue. The salesman told me he would give me a further £500 discount if I went for the blue one. I did. And, you can hardly see the dust. It always looks clean. I believe Blue cars are difficult to sell.

We once had a white car because we thought that white would reflect the light more and it wouldn't get so hot inside. (This was before air conditioning) The theory didn't really prove itself right and we have always had dark colours since. But looking clean or dirty was never a criterion.

One good thing about white cars is that they are supposed to be more visible to other cars in fog.

gillybob Fri 07-Jun-19 07:10:11

I have a white car . It’s that crisp crystal white too, not that wish washy White you sometimes see. It’s 6.5 years old and looks as good as new (unless you look inside after a week of school runs that is) .

I am not a washing fanatic but I do love seeing it gleaming .
I used to have a black car and it always looked filthy as you could see every speck of dust on it.

We had a white car years ago, loved the car and the colour, no issue with it looking any more dirty than it’s darker predecessor. Would definitely have one again.

Esspee Fri 07-Jun-19 07:18:58

We always chose white in hot countries as it does reflect the heat. In this country silver is the most practical colour.

Another dirty black car here. Shows up everything. Currently sporting cobwebs and bird poo ☹️

Nana3 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:23:39

My car is white, I wash it rarely and it looks fine. Get the white car.

kittylester Fri 07-Jun-19 07:26:24

Go for it!!

Auntieflo Fri 07-Jun-19 07:36:06

We are seriously thinking of changing our car.
What colour? -well, white of course .
Go for it NFK and enjoy.

loopyloo Fri 07-Jun-19 07:52:27

Perhaps if we all had white cars it would have an effect on global warming. And used them less of course.

J52 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:53:13

Years ago I had a white car, I don’t seem to remember it showing the dirt more than any other colour.
I’ve just ordered my new car, the hardest part was choosing the colour. I decided on silver, again!

M0nica Fri 07-Jun-19 08:18:57

All I remember about my white car was that I was constantly cut up when driving on motorways. DH didn't believe me, then he borrowed it to make a journey including motorway driving and came back agreeing with me.

I have a bright blue car, it hasn't had a wash for 2 years, although I keep thinking about it. It is not obvious - and I live in the country.
