Dgs and I spent the day at the Belgian National Day. Normal, but one of the marching bands were playing this tune.
Please please put me out of my misery, before my time really but I need relief.

Had a similar problem with the tune used for a TV advert. It went eventually, but I tried to sing other tunes to myself to overcome it. Good luck!!

I think it's My Friend the Witch Doctor by the Cartoons.

Is this the one

I've just Googled it and Cartoons was a more recent re-release. Somebody called David Saville did the original in 1958.

merlotgran Sun 21-Jul-19 19:20:09

The original

Could it be Rama Lama Ding Dong by The Edsels (the original)? It’s on YouTube.

Nannarose Sun 21-Jul-19 21:21:57

Is that the one that goes 'who put the bop in the bopshebopshebop, who put the ram in the ramadama dingdong?'
That's the one I sing to my GCs.

If you have an earworm, the best way of getting rid of it is to take two minutes to yourself and repeat (out loud if you can) the song, tune or word as many times as possible.

I'm currently trying to rid my brain of the unfortunate name of an Indian politician who has just passed away. I dare not say it aloud as my home-care lady is here grin and she will think I'm angry.

Really enjoyed listening to that, thanks for the reminder! They don't make 'em like that any more grin

felice Mon 22-Jul-19 09:52:15

Thanks folks, I usually rid myself of ear worms by thinking of a very complicated recipe. I then work through the shopping and preparation and it usually goes, but nothing is moving this onsmile.

Ah, the witch doctor Merlot ooh eee ooh haha, ying pong waller waller bing bang ?I remember it well.

Davida1968 Mon 22-Jul-19 11:26:49

I was told that singing Happy Birthday To You (the full song) three times over, can get rid of an "ear worm".

tanith Mon 22-Jul-19 11:28:00

Sorry felice I misunderstood your post I thought you were trying to find the tune not get rid of it. ?

felice Mon 22-Jul-19 12:17:37

Bit of both Tanith, it was the Witch Doctor, and sounded really great being played a a marching band of young people.
Now it is back again, ah well.

When I was a teenager in the 70's my parents would berate me for listening to Rock Bands: "You can't understand a word they're singing". Oh for the days of "ramalamadingdong" when all was crystal clear.

I'm surprised at the number of old records that are being used in adverts - eg "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane and Patric Bertrand "Ca Plane Pour Moi" for Kellogs of all things. Since hearing it again it's my ear worm.
