A short post...

I have ordered an Ancestry dna kit, the aim is to find my biological father.

Anyone else been/in same situation ?

No. But there's a lot of good YouTube videos which show people who have found out unpleasant truths about their fathers/families in general.

They're very fun to watch.

No but I am on a facebook group called DNA detectives which is full of people either being thrilled or terribly hurt when they locate their biological parent(s)
The results of the test come with a sobering warning that you may find an unhappy truth.

I did the test last year as I wanted to know where in the world I was from and also to solve a mystery but it was historical and no longer raw. (my GGF)

However, interestingly, when I reached out to my "new" cousins I didn't get a welcome into the family!
People are happy with the status quo.

I am glad I did the test though for my own satisfaction.

I have been using the results to help with a research project called
coronagenes which is trying to find out as much as they can about the covid 19 virus.

Yes take care Serendipity22 things may not turn out as you wish. Grammaretto found this out, I hope you are luckier in your search.
I would not want to be contacted by my biological father or any of his relatives.

Nothing of huge excitement in my DNA. 75% English, then Scottish, a smattering of Irish and the rest European. Heinz 57., as are most.
My D in Oz did the research.

Serendipity I wish you luck, but many people on Ancestry haven’t done a DNA test and many have done the test but don’t have a tree!.Plus you all get different bits of DNA from parents so it’s all a bit vague.
I’m sure though that you will find many cousins on the site.

Thank you for all replies.... appreciated.

It's not a family tree that I am wanting to follow, it's the man who is my biological father..... I am not pinning my hopes on this DNA kit... but time will tell !!!

Thank you once again .... smile

Serendipity you will only be able to make contact via your DNA test, if the person you hope is your Father has family members who are on Ancestry, Or if he himself is a Member,.
if they are a member, but don’t have a tree (many people have done the adNA test, but don’t have their tree on Ancestry) then you will have to message them and see if they will answer your message.
But your DNA will ( if you allow it) be matched up with other people’s trees, they might be close relatives or from way back.

Serendipity Hope you come back with an update once you have results, as I don't know anything about my bio father, not even his name, which makes it just about impossible to search.

I've found a lot of info in DH's family tree that he never knew about, just by continual online searching which takes a lot of time too. When it becomes a bit overwhelming I take a break...such as discovering 4 x children from one family dying within 8 days of each other, ages from 1 to 13. Can't begin to imagine how those parents would have coped.

Good luck and keep an open mind! ;-)
