Passports- do all your grandchildren, nephews, nieces

Why?

Yes except for the Covid born baby and his sister not yet 2. Most Aussies travel a lot, or they did until now. I actually don’t know any adults who don’t have one.

Absolutely, the youngest Covid baby is having their application sent off now.

Yes. Two of them went to Portugal for a wedding a few years ago and the other one has a passport so he can visit his family in Hungary.

Yes. But they are all young adults now.

Yes all of them have passports.

Still wondering why this should be if any interest to anybody else ????

I don’t have any of the above but my 7 and 4 year old do. My almost 2 year old does not.

Odd question, but then my synapses often miss the obvious.

My DGCs all have one, the youngest now 14 went to Barbados when she was six weeks old!

2 elder Gdcs do, not sure about the youngest, born shortly before Covid kicked off.

I’m sure everybody else does.
Since dd kept her maiden name when she married, at least partly for professional reasons, and her children have taken their father’s surname, she needs to take their birth certificates when travelling abroad without him (as has happened once or twice) to prove that she wasn’t abducting them!

I was with her once in the car en route to France when she was asked for BCs, and was reassured to see that they do ask for them.

I wish my mother had updated her passport as when we needed photo ID to open a new bank account for her ( to do with issues around her dementia which I was trying to sort out), she had no acceptable ID as she no longer had a driving licence!

This is in the context of schools sending letters to parents asking children to bring their passports on a certain day, year by year- in order to check their resident status. Explaining that things have changed since Brexit and that some may no longer have the right to be educated there.

And some of my friends asking 'what if the children do not have a passport?'. Which is currently not a requirement in the UK.

Are we talking about the UK?

If they don’t have their own passports they’ll be on their parents, won’t they? If they’ve travelled in.

If they were born here a birth certificate will establish that.

There's little evidence to verify this. After a quick search, this is all I can find.

So is this happening in your experience, eg to your grandchildren?
I had never come across this, is it in the U.K.?
Are there countries where a passport is a requirement for children unless foreign travel is planned?
And what do you mean “some may not have the right to be educated there” ?
Surely Brexit occurred nearly 18 months ago didn’t it?

My GC attend a total of 5 different schools, primary and secondary, not one has had a request to bring in their passport.

Proof of home address and birth certificate have always been needed on beginning primary school, along with proof of address when applying to senior schools, even when my children began their schooling.

In the article that muse put up it states that lack of these documents may delay the starting of school
There was nothing to say that some might not have the right to be educated there
