We’ve been invited to a 50th party with the above film as the theme. Fancy dress is not compulsory, but am interested in suggestions anyone may have for something appropriate but not OTT wink
Thanks

Oh, I do love a fancy dress party, but this would be a bit of a challenge. Perhaps one of the Albino Twins, all in white with a white wig and makeup? Or just a Victorian dress as Jenny Lind (from a fancy dress shop or ebay)? Unless, of course, you've the courage to be the bearded lady or the legs to be a trapeze artist?

If you're going with another woman, you could be both of the Albino Twins. smile

I suppose a man could be a strongman, or inked up as a tattooed man? There'll be loads of ringmasters.

Ah, I may have neglected to mention that DH doesn't really want to go to this do at all, so no chance of him dressing up!!!!

I'd be one of the show girls. Red satin corset, fishnet tights, boots. The only thing I'd have to buy would be a big wig ?

Maggiemaybe Sun 15-Sep-19 15:16:27

I wore that outfit once to a Wild West party, petra. With big feathers in my hair and a little gun tucked in my garter.

I've probably still got it somewhere (I throw nothing away). Sadly I no longer have the body to fit it. grin

What about wearing something (possibly quite outrageous) or just whatever you fancy, and make a tiara that reads "This is me!" Or carry a placard that reads "I am who I'm meant to be" smile

Enjoy.

Oh I m with your husband I don’t like dress up parties at all and hated the film so I ll have a pint with him while you go ?

Fiachna50 Sun 15-Sep-19 16:48:32

I am a killjoy and think fancy dress is for children, hate fancy dress. Have you thought about looking on Ebay or googling fancy dress shops, Victorian costumes? Something like that.

MawB Sun 15-Sep-19 17:22:03

I would plead a prior engagement!

EllanVannin Sun 15-Sep-19 17:59:51

I went to one nearly 10 years ago and some of the disguises were so good it took me all my time to recognise a few people-----including my GD who had to say " it's me, nan ", oh dear.

ninathenana Sun 15-Sep-19 18:45:46

Well I'd have to go as the fat lady grin
I have a friend who would revel in this. She and her husband have been to several of the masked balls in Venice. They also dress up for Dickens events.
You wouldn't see DH for dust.

I don’t know what I’d go as, but it sounds so much fun! Roles are somewhat limited for 60+ ladies

Thanks for all your input....I need to get my act together...literally??

GabriellaG54 Mon 16-Sep-19 18:23:40

I'd dress up as Liberace. The greatest showman in his era.

GabriellaG54 Mon 16-Sep-19 18:31:50

Be extravagant
Be fabulous
Be OTT
Enjoy

Grannyknot Mon 16-Sep-19 18:31:58

Gabriella but he is not in the film ...! smile

I've only just watched the film and I loved it.

Be extravagant, Be fabulous, Be OTT, Enjoy

I agree!

GabriellaG54 Fri 20-Sep-19 07:25:43

Oh I see Grannyknot
I haven't seen the film nor do I know what it's about so my mistake.
I thought (yes, we're all aware of what he did ?) that one could just dress as any 'great' showman. ?☺

Grannyknot Fri 20-Sep-19 07:48:09

Gabriella I hadn't seen the film either until recently, it didn't really appeal to me, but I sing in the Rock Choir and we sing "This is Me" so I thought best I watch the film for context. I loved it! Here's the song, Rock Choir leaders with Michael Ball at last year's Proms: smile

Grannyknot: I sing with Rock Choir too! Isn't This is Me great to sing? And the Proms in the Park clip is so good to watch.

Elegran Fri 20-Sep-19 08:20:59

Could you and OH go as two of the audience? The Greatest Showman would be nothing without his devoted fans.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 08:41:25

I'd rather listen to Josh Groban.

Humbertbear Fri 20-Sep-19 08:51:32

Petra - I wore a similar outfit to play a Madam in a staff play (strictly for staff) at a school Xmas party and then drove home without getting changed. I wonder what would have happened if the car had broken down?

Oopsminty Fri 20-Sep-19 09:02:33

Great idea from Elegran!
