Another grumble....

These have appeared on my FB page today. - ”redified” and “litchelly”. Took me a minute.

shysal Thu 14-Dec-17 14:07:04

What are they meant to mean? I assume litchelly is literally but haven't a clue about redified! tchconfused

My grumble in this cold weather is hearing 'slippy' all the time instead of slippery.

Blinko Thu 14-Dec-17 14:11:04

tchconfused redified??

Auntieflo Thu 14-Dec-17 14:17:06

Haven't got a clue, but, could it mean that you have 'made yourself ready??'

Scribbles Thu 14-Dec-17 14:48:06

Redefined with the n omitted, accidentally or otherwise?

Wheniwasyourage Thu 14-Dec-17 17:37:03

My late DM used to be furious about "slippy', shysal, and also "wrap up warm' instead of 'warmly', and she passed them both on to me. It's a bad time of year for both, unfortunately. tchhmm

In context it seems to mean rectified!

Bathsheba Thu 14-Dec-17 22:40:24

One of my most memorable FB posts was someone saying that a sad little video was 'heart rendering'. I could only imagine she'd been drinking and was plastered tchgrin

Bathsheba Thu 14-Dec-17 22:41:46

Sorry, that reads as if it was one of my posts! Which it wasn't. Oops hmm

On the local FB selling page recently someone was advertising their hand made "reefs" (wreaths) I wanted to correct him but didn't.
Someone did though as it was edited later that day tchsmile

I did see an advert once for a second hand ‘Chester Draws’ ?

HannahLoisLuke Fri 15-Dec-17 10:05:17

I've seen Chester draws advertised too Gypsy. I think sometimes it's pesky predictive text but yes it sets my teeth on edge.

Lincsblue Fri 15-Dec-17 10:09:53

'were' and 'did' seem to have disappeared on FB too, replaced with 'was' and 'done'

I spoke with a young person recently about exams and when I said about English Language they said they didn't do grammar in English Language but poetry etc. At my school that was English Literature. It could also explain a lot!

GrandmasueUK Fri 15-Dec-17 10:17:08

From someone who works in a primary school I saw. 'Are Sam' instead of 'our'. Argh. The funniest I thought was 'good will jester' grin

yogagran Fri 15-Dec-17 10:27:54

One of the posts from someone on my FB page stated that it was "wrapped up like a trustup turkey"

patriciageegee Fri 15-Dec-17 10:39:28

I once worked with a girl who's adored boyfriend was up there on a 'pedder stool'

Biddysue Fri 15-Dec-17 10:49:58

I was surprised when I read a letter complaining about some black bits found in a tin of peaches. The writer said that she had rinsed the peaches to remove the black bits and the peaches were then consummated !
grin

Hate the the phrase ‘so fun’ , seems to be in use a lot in the States........

kircubbin2000 Fri 15-Dec-17 11:13:22

The one that annoys me is"do you ship this couple". Seems to mean they make a nice couple.

sarahellenwhitney Fri 15-Dec-17 11:13:40

Bathsheba
Your 'rendering' comment made me smile
I cringe when listening to these so called educated persons and have visions of my cane wielding English teacher walking amongst the class ready to pounce on the unfortunate who as she informed us had most certainly been born illiterate.
Doubt that 21C she would have got away with that comment.

I too had a cane wielding English teacher - who like yours would most certainly "pounce" . . . . I LOVED her . . . she looked and dressed like Dolly Parton . . . . she certainly encouraged my sesquipedalian tendencies . . . . I can't get to grips with many of the FB "shorts" though. . . .

Madsad Fri 15-Dec-17 11:29:59

Loose instead of lose, calandar and'super' as in 'super fun!'

Musicelf Fri 15-Dec-17 11:44:02

Great Twitter one - someone's Grama (Grandma) had die of beeties (diabetes).

Daisynance123 Fri 15-Dec-17 11:49:35

One of the funniest I've ever seen was an expectant father excitedly telling the world that his wife was having 'contraptions'!
