Plain or plane.

I started looking at this with an earlier post.

Is it the Cheshire "plain" as say a boring feature.

Or should it be Cheshire "Plane" as a flat geographical feature.
Its bugging me now. Cheshire East council calls it Cheshire plain on there notices. .

A large area of flat land is a plain. Salisbury Plain, The Great Plains of the US, The Cities of the Plain in the Bible (Sodom and Gomorrah, centres of wickedness which got their come-uppance when they were submerged in a flood)

PS - I wouldn't have mentioned these if this hadn't been the Pedants' corner topic, but it is THEIR come-uppance, not there and it is defiNITEly plain, not definately
