Do I need the wine first?

Someone got their tenses tangled up, possibly after drinking the wine.

Compare:
- the best I ever drank
- the best I have ever drunk

I'll let you know when I have drunk it!!

You are correct and the advert wrong.

drank is the past tense and drunk the past participle, so the advert should either read " the best I ever drank" or "the best I have ever drunk".

Whoever wrote the advert obviously did not read it through before sending it to the printer.

Maybe as the wine is South African that's how they say it over there?!

On a whim, I emailed the company, and received a computer generated reply.

We notice that you did not buy wine on your visit, or words to that effect.

So I replied to that one, by saying, " did you read my email?

I now await their response to that one.

You can tell I have nothing more exacting with which to fill my day. ?

The proof reader, prior to printing, should have picked up the error but if the proof reader doesn't have a good grasp of tenses, that doesn't help either.

Ad is wrong! My mother spotted an ad in the paper once for Cidona, I think. It featured a girl and a sewing machine, but the photo had been printed in reverse, so it looked like a left handed sewing machine, which doesn't exist. My mother wrote, pointing out the error and got some free bottles of Cidona for her trouble! Modern companies don't take customer comments seriously any more.

FarmorA lefthanded sewing machine would have been a better invention, as you could then have turned the handle with your left hand and done the more fiddly adjustments and guiding with the right. I once heard that the reason sewing machines were the way round they are is because the wife of the original inventor was left-handed, so it was designed for her to use her more nimble left hand for the guiding and her right hand for the handle.

I have had a reply from L.........'s, and they say that the advert represents reviews by customers. Hmmm.
I didn't think that it represented them in a particularly good light. Never mind.
But, hey ho, I may even try the wine on offer.
