This morning I took our 11yr old JR Millie to the vet for her annual boosters. As we walked across the car park I noticed she was coughing but didn't think anything of it because she often does that if she's pulling on the lead.
By the time we reached the waiting room she was coughing non stop as though she was trying to clear her throat. There were some alarmed looks from the other people waiting!! The vet agreed with me that she probably had a grass seed or something stuck in her throat so I left her there for an exploratory op with that sinking feeling that it was not going to be cheap!
A few hours later the vet rang to say the problem was caused by an abscess at the back of a tooth that was draining into her throat and affecting her tonsils - hence the cough.
All is well now and Millie is back home. My purse is £627 lighter but at least we were in the right place. She's insured but insurance companies don't cover dental work. The vet is going to emphasise it was emergency investigative surgery so I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll pay out.
