Mumsnet and Gransnet are working with the IWF (Internet Watch Foundation), a partner in the UK Safer Internet Centre, to find out more about how parents and grandparents address internet safety issues, and what they would like to know more about. This survey is going to explore how parents and grandparents think about internet safety when looking after their children or grandchildren.

This survey is open to parents and grandparents of at least one child/grandchild over the age of 2 and under the age of 18, living in the UK and Ireland. When answering the questions, please think about your youngest child or grandchild over the age of 2.

We’ll be asking questions about current technology and internet-enabled devices, so if you’re a grandparent, your experiences looking after grandchildren will probably be more relevant than your experiences as a parent.

Click here to complete the survey.

Finally, we just wanted to warn you that some questions in this survey address child sexual abuse and grooming. If you’ve got any concerns you want to discuss with an expert, or you want further advice about any issues raised here, please contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.

Had a look at the survey, but it is very specifically aimed at Grandparents who look after grandchildren on a regular basis when parents are not present.

Not for grandparents where the whole family visit every month or so and where parents therefore continue to exercise parental control,

Completed though I did it from the point of view of the eleven year old who stays with us rather than the younger ones who do not.

Done, but I found it confusing. For instance, we’re asked what dangers we worry about our DGC facing online. My 3 year old DGS has only ever in my care watched one children’s YouTube video and played one age appropriate game, once, both while supervised. smile Am I supposed to answer, as I did, that I am not at all worried about any danger he faces, or that I am worried about every hypothetical danger out there that he could face if he had more access to the internet? confused Also, one question is duplicated, instead of two alternatives being given (under supervision/not under supervision).

Well I’ve done it but it was quite difficult. As Maggie has already said I wasn’t sure how to answer some questions.
At the moment I am not concerned about myGS’s use of the Internet. However I am concerned about his use as he gets older.

I'm glad it wasn't just me, Pamela!
