Find out what GNers think of the new McDonald’s Happy Meal menu options

This is the feedback thread for the gransnetters who attended the McDonald’s family fun day to try out the new Happy Meal menu with their 5-11 year old grandchildren. Testers visited a McDonald’s restaurant in St Pauls for music, games, face painting, and for their children to try the new customisable grilled chicken wrap menu option in Happy Meals. This new option was added to the Happy Meal menu after running research via a survey and focus group with Mumsnetters and gransnetters to find out what they’d like to see in Happy Meals.

Here’s what McDonald’s has to say: “We are constantly looking for ways to enhance our menu, from introducing new items to evolving the recipes of our iconic favourites. We’ve taken big steps to improve our Happy Meal in recent years and reducing saturated fat, salt and sugar content across our menu remains a priority. This is why we have been working with Mumsnet and Gransnet to provide even greater choice for parents and their families. We’ve heard from Mumsnetters and gransnetters about what they’d love to see added to the Happy Meal menu and we’re excited to be launching it.”

Testers please share any photos you took at the event and answer the following questions:

- What did you and your grandchildren think of the new Grilled Chicken Wrap option on the Happy Meal menu?
- What did you think about being able to customise the Grilled Chicken Wrap? What options did you pick?
- What did you think of the event? Have you been to a Family Fun event before?
- What else would you like to see from McDonald’s for you and your family to better enjoy the restaurant experience?
- What are your main considerations when eating out as a family?

Everyone who leaves their feedback on event will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

What did you and your grandchildren think of the new Grilled Chicken Wrap option on the Happy Meal menu?they loved it my daughter whos 5 only eats certain foods but she tried this and gave it a big thumbs up. Really looking forward to it being rolled out across the country. We came from southampton
- What did you think about being able to customise the Grilled Chicken Wrap? Good to have it with out sauce. More chicken option for bigger children would be great
- What did you think of the event? Never been to one before but my girls really enjoyed it. Eveeyone was so nice. We had a lovely chat with Louise who explained the new ideas to us and we loved the heathy no fried ideas.
- What else would you like to see from McDonald’s for you and your family to better enjoy the restaurant experience? More games for familys and less plastic toys. Plates and knives and forks to get children eating at tables better
- What are your main considerations when eating out as a family?heathy and quick. As our 5 year old isnt very good at sitting still. Would like carrot sticks and melons in happy meal instead of chips as standard.
Thanks you for a fantastic day. We had a great time. Thanks for a wonderful experience for our girls first time in London

Back from London, having had a fun, if warm, day with DD(33), DS(17), DGS(7) and DG(2)

What did you and your grandchildren think of the new Grilled Chicken Wrap option on the Happy Meal menu?
The grandsons loved the new wrap and the 7 year old wolfed it down. He told me that "It is the best McDonald's meal that I have ever eaten and it's healthy too." The 17 year old chose to eat the adult version, so it is a popular menu item with all ages.

What did you think about being able to customise the Grilled Chicken Wrap? What options did you pick?
DGS1 is not a fussy eater and so was very pleased to be able to fill his wrap with all the salad choices. Personally I love extra pickles and onion and would give the ketchup a miss.

What did you think of the event? Have you been to a Family Fun event before?
We have never been to anything like this before although we are regulars at McDonalds. We had a great time with family games, colouring, balloon modelling, facepainting and McFlurries. All the time we were being filmed and the children were asked what they thought of the grilled chicken wraps.

What else would you like to see from McDonald’s for you and your family to better enjoy the restaurant experience
I agree with Jodavage that the family games were better received than the plastic toys.
More vegetarian and gluten free options would mean that more families would eat together at McDonalds.

What are your main considerations when eating out as a family?
When we eat out it is usually a treat, so calories and sugar content don't really come under scrutiny. It is more important that the food arrives quickly as a small hungry child will cause chaos.
McDonalds have changed for the better recently. You can order in advance on the mobile app. or take advantage of table service after ordering on the in-store terminal.

Just back from a great day in London, attending the McDonald's event in ludgate Hill. DD, gs 8 and gs 8 months.Right from the time we arrived to leaving, we were made to feel welcome. Daniel really enjoyed his happy meal, at 8 he can eat a lot so had a chicken wrap and a cheeseburger happy meal, cheesy balls, melon and crunchie mcflurry. Baby Jack was on his first visit to McDonald's and enjoyed chicken nuggets a couple of chips, bag of melon and some ice cream.
We had great fin with the various activities that were laid on, and Jack thought his 'tortoise balloon was fab!
To top it all my DD and Daniel were filmed and interviewed on the ordering process. Let's hope at sometime we can see the filming!
On the whole, McDonald's menu is good as a family treat. I know usually the fruit bags also include apples and grapes, unfortunately not there today, but Jack enjoyed the melon.
Daniel not a fussy water so had everything in his wrap.
The McDonald's happy meal toys are getting a bit boring...however the games went down a treat even Jack wore the masks!
As a treat we don't worry to much about calorie intake and found the whole experience pleasant

My daughter Jo Davage ( first comments) has captured our thoughts. Thank you to all the team for making the day so pleasant.
Grace and Harriet, my granddaughters had a wonderful time and love playing the games.
The wraps are a good healthy idea and the children felt that it would have been good to customise them, as one of them likes plain, no nonsense food , whilst the other one is more adventurous. The wraps were the right size for younger children but I think they are too small for the older child. Louise explained that they are considering being able to offer larger portions as required. Which is a good idea.
Up until now, I hadn't thought of Mc Donalds as offering healthy options and it wouldn't have been my first choice when feeding the girls when out, but today has completely changed my mind. It was good to see that the staff were listening to our views and in some cases already had ideas to enhance this initiative.
Well done Mc Donalds you now have a convert and thanks for a great event. We all enjoyed it.

Hi when will you be announcing the winner

dessa Wed 25-Jul-18 23:09:45

Me and my grandchildren enjoy visiting McDonalds on special occasions such as birthdays or family outings.
It is great to see that McDonalds is continue to improve their menu and introduces more of healthy options.
When going out to McDonalds I often look to order something healthy and nutritious for them. I like fact, that we can find food for everyone's liking, from grown ups to younger ones. We all like wraps, so Grilled Chicken wrap would be our favourite too.
I am sure my grandchildren would love to attend this event....All loves colouring , face painting and fun.

We usually eat at McDonalds on shopping trips. They are one of the few fast food chains who claim they don't use halal meat so I boycott the rest on cruelty grounds. The grandchildren love their Happy Meal toys and, if there's a play area, that's a plus too.

sadly never attended the event, but will say, McDonalds is the only fast food we allow ourselves on occasion, kids love the nuggets and shakes, and my husband loves the chicken

McDonald's happy meal is the best way to engage kids. I love McDonald’s chicken nuggets, veggie dippers, hamburger, cheeseburger. also, McDonald's Monopoly was a great time of the year, it lasts 41 days and let the fast-food fans collect the iconic Monopoly properties and which lead them to win amazing million-dollar Monopoly prize, gift cards, and McDonald’s giveaways. but I never got to win anything in McDonald's but I took the McDonalds survey and answer a few questions related to McDonald’s customer satisfaction and won free burgers. www.mcdvoice.to/
