Well, that didn't work. Every answer deleted when I got to the bottom. I don't usually bother with this stuff – and won't next time. I just thought it might me interesting. Silly me!

Done , though didn't really apply to me

EllanVannin Thu 24-Jan-19 12:56:06

I filled it in where applicable

I tried but the questions and selected answers were tricky to fit with my situation. Closed questions and multiple choice don't work well for real lives.

I did it but think not many have partners of kids as nice as my daughters' partner are. In fact I'd take either first or second partner of #1 daughter over her any time if I had to choose between them. Although of course you only know how they behave in front of and to you, not in private.

Done. I'm lucky that both my DILs are lovely people.

Done. Like Caledonai14, I found it a bit tricky to answer the DIL/SIL questions - of my four (adult) children, two are happily married to lovely partners, the third moved in with his GF only six months ago and the relationship is looking rocky, the fourth has an long-term on-off BF that she doesn't live with and whom I've only met the once. So I just answered for the two married ones.

Thought provoking, interesting survey.

Not so easy to answer as I am their step mother and as they had grown up when I met their father it took them a long time to even speak to me, 17 years down the line the one is happy to see me but the other is still saying I'm only with him for his money, so not that easy.

Easy to do, but I realise that not all families are as lucky as ours. We behave as one big family and as just inlaws, we get invited to son in law's brother's family too. All special occasions are spent together and we are all happy to see each other. We are spread out, geographically so we are not together as often as we would like to be. If I was able to choose a son, then my son in law would be my choice.

My son in law has proved to be a wonderful husband and father. My Granddaughter was desperately ill as a newborn and both my son in law and my daughter moved heaven and earth to get her well. My son in law had absolutely no experience of babies, but adapted really quickly to become an excellent father.
We have a 400 mile gap between us but I took advice from places like Gransnet on how to be a good long distance Grandmother. It has worked well. My Granddaughter is now twelve and we have a great relationship.
