In praise of.....

my husband. Yes, he does have a few irritating habits and he isn't (quite) perfect, but he's been a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He is kind, thoughtful, generous and really, really good at DIY; he's also my dearest and best friend.

my parents in law. The apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. My in laws are two of the kindest, most generous and thoughtful people I've ever met. They support all the family with patient good humour and great sensitivity.

It apparently takes ten positive comments to undo the work of a single negative one. Let's be kind and give praise where it's due.

Jolly good idea Granny...and too much moaning rots the soul I am sure....much better to say nice things and see the good in folks.

I too have a jolly nice husband.....hes the boring reliable type.....which to be honest is a pretty wonderful thing in this sometimes unreliable world....and if I do find myself thinking he is a bit staid..I just think what a right royal PIA I can be and smile and thank my lucky stars!

That's such a lovely post grannyactivist smile
So, in praise of:
My husband too, he is a lovely thoughtful and kind man, we have been together forever and he is still my best friend.
My mum, a kind, kind woman - always thinking of others - she has struggled with many things in her life but is always cheerful and loves her family with a passion. smile

I agree! My husband has put up with me for over 40 years so he can't be all bad! However, he isn't perfect either. It would be disloyal to moan about him as he has always done his best for all of us and I love spending time with him and talking about the day. PS - don't tell him I said that!!

greenmossgiel Mon 22-Aug-11 19:51:57

Oh I know! Mine makes a lovely job of the garden, is brilliant at shining all the brassware - and, although being grumpy, I do know that he really loves me (as I do him). I can't be the easiest person to live with! smile

Gally Mon 22-Aug-11 20:04:58

Oh Yes - I had better join in too! Mr Gally has been in the garden all day putting in lots of plants in our newly designed garden - he was very patient when I changed my mind (again and again....) I am very difficult to live with and he has the patience of a saint and is kind, gentle, good looking and a great Dad to our 3 girls and a doting Grandaddy to their wee ones; he had massive heart surgery in his mid-50's and has ongoing problems, so I am so grateful that he is still very much here with us now, which was not the prognosis at that time.

greenmossgiel Mon 22-Aug-11 20:10:06

So much to be thankful for Gally. smile

Good friends both old and new. They keep me sane, ask important questions, give good advice, don't judge, share good times and bad, laugh and cry together, love their company and know we're always there for each other even if physically in another country. Would add a wine glass smiley or two (or more) if I could work out how to do it!! Help, need a friend to tell me how!

yogagran Mon 22-Aug-11 22:23:02

Thanks GA for restoring my faith in people, so refreshing as well.

Thanks to my OH for putting up with me for so many years, he's quiet and patient and I'm the one who throws temper tantrums! He's been a huge support with my DC, he's not their father but he's been truly brilliant with them

Thanks to many friends for their love and support over the years

Thanks to all of you G.Netters for new found friendship xx

jogginggirl Mon 22-Aug-11 23:08:30

glammanana - I'm no expert but brackets - smile/grin/wink/shock/any emoticons/ brackets should fix it.... try it now................x

glammanana Mon 22-Aug-11 23:17:27

jgI had a go a couple of time's no joy I think will have to get DS when he call's to show me,it will involve him calling me dumb blonde again but hey-ho

yogagran Mon 22-Aug-11 23:35:26

It all depends on the style of brackets you use, they are the square ones, normally on a keyboard they are next to the letter p and you don't use the shift key. So they should appear on your message as [ ]

Any help..??

grannyactivist Mon 22-Aug-11 23:43:16

Try this for emoticons: highlight the word (including brackets) next to the emoticon you want e.g. [ smile ], then click on it and drag it into the text box. OR type square bracket [ then type describing word, e.g grin, then close bracket ]smile grin wink

Quiltinggran Tue 23-Aug-11 06:45:30

smile Thank you everyone - it worked! Did the brackets, then typed the word 'smile'. smile

In praise of... The Band of Sisters
You may have heard of the work of Help for Heroes, but do you know they have a 'Band of Sisters' which offers support, recognition and fellowship to the wives of service personnel killed or injured in conflicts? This little known organisation has been very helpful to my daughter. They send her little treats now and again which really brighten her day. smile

jogginggirl Wed 24-Aug-11 08:06:42

ga haven't heard of this organisation before, will be reading up on it but I'm so glad to hear that they are able to brighten your daughter's day and offer support etc., to her and others smile

jogginggirl Wed 24-Aug-11 08:15:12

Correction ..........have heard of Help for Heroes - just not Band of Sisters. I live quite close to military base in North Shropshire - HfH's organisation is very active here......with lots of local support smile

Heather Wed 24-Aug-11 13:36:25

grannyactivist, your post has made my blood run cold but only because my darling daughter number 2 is marrying in October - sooner than originally planned - because he is 'being posted'.
My brother is also 'active' and I have supported Help for Heroes but now I will look in to Band of Sisters - whilst, obviously, hoping we never need either.
Thank you
