'Psalm CXVI. 15. Mal. III. 17.'

I am not used to looking up Bible references, can you tell me what this says?
I just found it transcribed from a relative's grave.

I think it's, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants."

It is peaceful.

Yes I had got it wrong. The number, I think.

I got: 'And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.'

This would have been an interesting comment on the life and work of a pawnbroker....

However, perhaps he was loved by his family after all.

Thanks folks.

Alie, the Malachi 3:17 reference is: 17 "They will be Mine," says the LORD of hosts, "on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him."

It means that God owns everything and when He recreates the world He intended humans to live in He will choose some of the dead to be reincarnated anew to live in that world.

Not very many people will get that chance as they prefer to worship other 'gods' ie 'alter egos' of Satan.

Are you sure that's what it means?

Malachi 3:17 (KJ21) | In Context | Whole Chapter

17 “And they shall be Mine,” saith the Lord of hosts, “in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son who serveth him.

Where does it say that God will recreate the world? Where does it say he will choose from the dead?

I see the phrase 'spare them'. That implies forgiveness.

Can I ask which denomination/church you belong to so that I know who is using the Bible to spread such a bitter message?

vq, he/she said on another thread that she picked up a Jehovahs witness Bible.
I dont know if you know much about their translations, but they alter the Bible many times so that it doesnt look much like the other translations which are almost identical and dont lose the central themes.
I am not quite finding the right words, but I expect you get the gist.

Ah JW. That explains a lot.
