The difference

I am finding a quite significant difference between theory and practice

Eg: I know how to aim, shoot a bow!
I know about angles, wind speed, elevation etc:
So:- why can't I hit the bull every time?

I'm talking about a target, not a big male bovine! Even I couldn't miss one of those! (I think)

Oh, I don't know, Galen. If one of those was heading straight for me it would be just my luck to miss!

No use asking me...thatbags will know!

There are a lot of variables which it takes a lot of practice to eliminate. It's a sport because you can never totally eliminate them. And it's a skill like playing a musical instrument because practice is what makes the difference.

And... whisper.... we don't say the bullseye, we say the gold. Bullseyes are for darts players. Besides, if you were shooting an animal (which you're not), you'd go for the heart, not an eye.

I'm a darts player at heart. Just that I'm a BIG GIRL now , so I want bigger darts.
We used to call our darts arrows just to confuse!

Time to go and throw big darts at a YELLOW circle!

Odysseus did quite well with a spear aiming at an eye.

I call it the yellow too. Get ticked off every time. wink

It's still yellow.

Enjoy your dart throwing, galen.

Thanks!

I always got told off for calling a nautical chart a map and threatening to navigate using the AA handbook.

Well back again, sore fingers! But really enjoyed it . The coach discussed me with another disabled member and they think I might dowelling with a compound bow!
They sound very technical for a simple gal like me!

thatbags Sun 08-Sep-13 13:53:14

dowelling?

Do well?

I thought they would suggest a compound bow for you before long.

Glad you're enjoying it.

Galen Sun 08-Sep-13 14:04:58

I thought they were horrible complicated things though?

thatbags Sun 08-Sep-13 14:24:01

I shoot simple, as you know. They are more powerful than traditional bows, but the compound build means you can pull more weight for the same amount of muscle power. They are more accurate too because, at least the best ones, have a centreshot window. This means the arrow doesn't have to flex past the bow and "fishtail". Because they are more powerful, arrow flight is faster and therefore flatter, and so on.

Being shorter, they can be shot easily from a chair or wheelchair too.

Ah! That's why they think ill be better. I am having a little difficulty with the length!
