Water voles will soon no longer be seen plopping into our rivers

The mink are eating them all! It's bad enough that mink were imported for fur farms (cruel) but then some idiots went and released them all without thinking what introducing a vicious alien predator into the environment would do to other species.
My son works as an ecologist (water vole expert). The numbers continue to plummet in spite of efforts to reintroduce populations.
Why do we have to cause so many problems for other species?

What?? We were only just celebrating the revival of water voles due to corridors of land being created for them alongside water channels, enabling them to move around and breed more effectively, and now the minks are eating them? Back to the drawing board!

Last thing I read the numbers had dropped by two thirds - again!
