Any advice on what I could begin growing now would be much appreciated - but have I left it too late?!

No!

Carrots, calabrese, cauliflower, cabbage, French beans, runner beans, courgette all the lettuce varieties amongst loads of stuff to get going on.

The RHS gives you all the advice you need. They do a month by month app for veg, fruit etc.

I get a monthly email / newsletter from Allotments and Gardens.
www.allotment-garden.org/garden-advice-month/fruit-vegetable-growing-may/

There's a link for all the May jobs including what to plant and where.

? Good luck.

The soil will have warmed up now, too, so germination and growth will be quicker.

Rocket seeds germinate quickly and grow like a weed!
