After all this time (I think I joined Gransnet early 2014) I'm still not sure what the abbreviations for relationships mean. blush
Especially the "D" at the beginning. Please explain!

Dear or darling.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 28-Apr-15 10:05:02

Yes eg: DH = dear/darling husband, DD daughter, DGS grandson and so on
Let us know any others and we are happy to translate!

Or you could click on the 'Acronyms' box at the top of this page, Tricia - it's a list of the most common ones.

TriciaF Tue 28-Apr-15 11:49:34

Thanks all!
Not able to see the Acronym button so I searched it and came up with some amusing comments, eg
"The one I dislike is Darling blinking Husband, my old man is certainly not my Darling ...."
I find that one uncomfortable to use too - usually just say Husband or give his name.

I've noticed DBH being used, absolutely no idea what that one means confused

AshTree Tue 28-Apr-15 14:41:55

That's dearly beloved husband, I think.

AshTree Tue 28-Apr-15 14:43:19

Or it could be deadly boring husband? Anyone? wink

ninathenana Tue 28-Apr-15 15:17:42

Cari I see FYI is missing from the list.

One of Sheldon Cooper's favourites........For Your Information.
I have seen it used on here.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 28-Apr-15 16:03:03

LOL ICWYM grin grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 28-Apr-15 16:07:09

Both of which are now on the page btw - with a few more for good measure

Dearly Beloved Husband - my fault, sorry. It evolved as a fairly ironic answer to a certain tone he used when about to request something he knew I wouldn't like. 'Jane, my Darling Sweetheart...' 'Yes, Dearly Beloved...?'

Although mentally, frequently 'Dear Bloody Husband'.

Cari grin

I thought DBH was dear better half! smile

janerowena Tue 28-Apr-15 17:45:32

No, I am the Better Half. We can't have two of us. grin

loopylou Tue 28-Apr-15 19:15:44

I knew I was in trouble when DH addressed me as 'Young lady' yesterday!
The kitchen sink was blocked.......yes, guilty m'lud of washing fine gravel down the plug hole semi-accidentally when transferring plant from one potholder to another hmm

For once I was wrong grin

loopylou Tue 28-Apr-15 19:17:46

Where the heck did he get 'Young lady' from?
Must remind him his eye test is overdue...... Didn't feel in the slightest bit flattered either!

glassortwo Tue 28-Apr-15 20:03:39

Always think of Dear Bl***y Husband grin

loopylou Tue 28-Apr-15 20:09:09

Me too!
I think there should also be NSDH (not-so-dear husband) for days when I'm fostering murderous thoughts grin

glassortwo Tue 28-Apr-15 20:22:08

grin

janerowena Tue 28-Apr-15 23:30:35

A friend of mine emails me and uses abbreviations. She calls her neighbour NDN. Next Door Neighbour. She also has NDNBO, so I thought it was the man on the other side of her with a bad personal problem. I only found out a couple of weeks ago that he's Next Door Neighbour But One. grin

baubles Wed 29-Apr-15 07:44:30

Ah......thanks janerowena that's been niggling me for a while. grin

baubles Wed 29-Apr-15 07:46:45

Cari you missed one - CBA. Increasingly relevant I find.

AshTree Wed 29-Apr-15 10:29:46

But it may be that Cari CBA to add it to the page wink

janerowena Wed 29-Apr-15 11:15:23

grin

TriciaF Wed 29-Apr-15 15:10:19
