Why can't I have 1000 posts per page?

I've tried loads of times since I've been on GN, but every time I select 1000 posts per page on the customise screen, then hit 'save changes' it always reverts to 100. Every time confused. Help!

'save options'

I was rather hoping that GNHQ might have seen this.
Knock knock, anyone there?
I know it's a Monday morning sad and I know you're busy, but it would really make me so happy if you could give just a teeny bit of attention to this for me.
Thank you smile

Apologies for the late reply.

That's odd - what device are you using?

What happens when you click 'save'? Does the page refresh?

Indinana Mon 08-Feb-16 09:43:09

I have tried to do this on, wait for it ..... a Windows laptop (Chrome), an iMac desktop, an iPhone, an iPad (the one I won on GN smile) and on my 5 year old iPad. All of the Apple devices use Safari.
When I click 'save' the page refreshes, but the 1000 has changed back to 100.

Also, I gather from comments on another thread that there should be an option on the green bar at the top of the thread which reads "Show all messages". I don't have this. If I go to Customise and select 25 messages and save (it does work for this!), then I have an option on the green bar which says "Show 100 messages".

I've tried turning Adblock off, but this makes no difference.

Wait, I'm going to sign in on IE and see if that makes any difference.....

No, that didn't work either sad. Just the same as Chrome - the page refreshes but doesn't save.

Is that it? No suggestions, no offers to speak to the tech people? confused

Hi Indiana,

The message varies depending on how many posts are on each thread. When I change my settings to '25 messages per page', on threads where there are fewer posts, it says 'show all messages' - eg. www.gransnet.com/forums/other_subjects/1223309-In-the-cup-or-in-the-pot

For larger threads that are approaching the 1000 post mark, it says 'view 1000 messages' - eg. www.gransnet.com/forums/chat/1221370-The-Soop-Kitchen

However, if you select to view '1000 messages per page', you should be able to see all the posts on the thread. We'll ask tech to look into why it's not working for you.

Thank you Kat. smile

Oh, and just for the record, I did try your linked threads and I get 'show 100 messages' on the smaller one if I change to 25 per page. But I don't get 'view 1000 messages' at the top on the other one sad

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 11-Feb-16 13:50:31

What do you get instead? Are you able to screenshot it for us?

Indinana Thu 11-Feb-16 13:55:13

Here you are

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 11-Feb-16 13:57:02

How odd - and to confirm, this is when your settings are 25 messages per page?

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 11-Feb-16 14:04:48

Tech have said the option to view 1000 messages on one page is only available to old users, and you're a relatively new user.

We've asked them to fix this so all users can view 1000 messages per page.

Ana Thu 11-Feb-16 14:07:36

How old do we have to be? grin

Indinana Thu 11-Feb-16 14:10:22

No, that was when I had it set to 100. Here's what I get when it's set to 25 (on the smaller thread)

Indinana Thu 11-Feb-16 14:14:05

I get exactly the same on the larger threads too.

Oh and I've just read your second post. So that was why, not because I was being singled out for persecution grin. Glad you're getting it changed - thanks!

Indinana Thu 11-Feb-16 14:15:11

That did cross my mind Ana. I was feeling rather pleased that I don't fall into the 'old' category grin

Well that hasn't happened . And I've been a member for a year now - however many years do you have to be a member before you're considered an 'old user'? I really would have thought that by now I'd have completed my novitiate hmm

Indinana Sun 24-Apr-16 22:25:09

I give up <sigh>

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 25-Apr-16 09:48:23

Apols - tech weren't able to implement this as it would slow down our servers.

It's registrations before a certain date that are able to view this - unfortunately it won't change for users registered after this time.

Boo sad. Oh well, no biggy I guess. Thanks for trying smile
