"I agree" thumbs up

Actually, it doesn't have to be a thumb but just a way of tallying agreement. I think it would let people get involved without posting if they want to and save lots of repetition.

I hope it's okay to add the picture. It's how they do it on another forum I go on.

Could make the threads very short. Perhaps a bit lazy.

Gonegirl Sat 01-Jun-19 16:24:49

Perhaps find a more interesting, verbal way of agreeing.

Beckett Sat 01-Jun-19 16:32:00

BlueBelle can you explain how it's done for those of us with only basic skills please

GracesGranMK3 Sat 01-Jun-19 16:42:15

If you look at the picture I put on - click on it to make it bigger - it shows the count of all who agreed which I find sometimes show gives a better view.

On here you may get four or five people all arguing one point and one who happens to be on at the same time trying to put the alternative. That can happen for any discussion and with either side having a majority at that point in time.

I don't see it as lazy but more as a way of introducing people who currently don't feel happy to join in. There may be 15 people agreeing with the one person and no one else agreeing with the four or five - or there may be lots agreeing with one particular point.

I'm not sure that making the threads shorter occasionally is always a bad thing and, of course, you can agree with a post and then go on and still post your own point of view. People who come on later can also agree with earlier posts. Again this allows a different balance to form.

Click on the little smiley face next to the space bar when you've typed your post. Loads of emojis come up. The thumbs up appears to have been added by a left handed person. Looks odd.

I like a thunbs up in fact I think I suggested it before .Its not being lazy its jsut saves folk all saying exactly the same thing

Gonegirl Sat 01-Jun-19 16:46:20

? See? It's the wrong way round. Unless you are left handed.

Gonegirl Sat 01-Jun-19 16:49:05

But, if they say the same thing differently......

And anyway, you won't get one. Too much like a 'like' button and they're having none of that.

BlueBelle Sat 01-Jun-19 16:53:51

I agree the counted thumbs up is a great idea but we have asked many times for these small adjustments and never been granted them
It’s not lazy as you can still make a post as a reply

Gonegirl Sat 01-Jun-19 16:56:25

"They" have become very set in their ways.

MamaCaz Sun 02-Jun-19 15:37:36

I have also argued previously for a like button or something similar, like the counted thumbs-up.

It annoys me when I really like/agree with a post that I have just read, then discover that there have been many more posts after it. It means that if I want to briefly express my agreement by saying "great post" or "I agree", I can't, as it could refer to any of the posts already made. Instead, I have to copy and paste the relevant post and re-format it in order for my brief comment to have any meaning. Far too time-consuming!

Maybe the Gransnet elves think we oldies have nothing better to do with our time, or that it is too complicated for us - casual ageism? wink

BeeWitch Sun 02-Jun-19 18:07:36

I'm left-handed, but I'm not thumb-ist. Makes a nice change actually to see a left-handed symbol. wink

Luckylegs Sun 02-Jun-19 18:21:05

I’d like a ‘like’ button a la Facebook, much easier.

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 02-Jun-19 21:35:43

Hi all,

We don't have plans to add a 'like' button in the near future, but thank you for the suggestions. smile

Jessity Sun 02-Jun-19 22:00:07

Gransnet (thinks it) knows best. We’re expected to shut up and behave.

Have any site suggestions ever borne fruit?

Gonegirl Sun 02-Jun-19 22:17:07

I got a chicken emoticon!

Gonegirl Sun 02-Jun-19 22:18:56

No one uses it. No one knows what it's for. sad

Gonegirl Sun 02-Jun-19 22:20:09

Could we swop it for a thumbs up please Natasha. Have a quick look in the drawer. See what you can find.

Adding something to an existing platform like the installation which runs Gransnet, even as simple as a 'like' button or a 'thumbs up', involves extra computer programming and no doubt expense that GN does not want.

We could choose one of the icons below to signify our liking and/or agreement of a post.
sunshine for instance OR cupcake

And if we thought someone was talking utter rubbish, I suggest:
