How to use the 'Search' function

Dear GNHQ, please could you explain to me how to use the search function properly, as I have far more failures than success with it!

For example, yesterday, I wanted to find a thread that I thought was called Good Morning Monday. I typed those words into the 'include the words' box, and ticked the 'search titles only' box.
I expected search to come up with a list of thread titles that those words, but as so often happens when I try to search for something, it found no search results whatsoever.

In the end, I worked out which forum the threads I was hoping to find were most likely to be on ('chat' in this case), and trawled back through the lists of every thread that has been started on that forum until I found the specific thread(s) that I wanted.

I presume I am doing something wrong when I try to use 'search', given the number of failed attempts I have, so a few pointers would be very useful, please.

The best method is to bypass the Gransnet search engine entirely and search on Google for the words you remember, in inverted commas, plus the word Gransnet.

MamaCaz for what it's worth, here's my search tip: I simply use Google to search for whatever I'm looking for on GN an I add the word Gransnet - e.g. I would search for Good Monday Monday Gransnet.

I just tried it an sure enough, it worked.

I'm sure you are both right.

Thinking back, it is surprising how often I ended up on Gransnet by chance, long before I joined, when random Google searches I was making threw up relevant discussions on here!

The GN search box doesn’t work on my iPhone XS but works on my laptop for some reason - it’s very annoying.

Ooh, I think i've solved thanks to you, SirChenjin! smile

I am still on my tablet, as usual, but what you said prompted me to click from the mobile version the desktop version, and it seems to work with that!
