Over on Gransnet?

Gransnet Daily has a feature Over on Mumsnet.

I am wondering if there is a Mumsnet Daily, and if so, does it have an Over on Gransnet link each day?

Yes, I am wondering if people on Mumsnet have been informed about the thread I started about how is a mother-in-law addressed.

Yes, ElderlyPerson, I get the Mumsnet daily newsletter, and it does indeed have a link to Over on Gransnet. Yesterday’s link was to the I have never been drunk in my life, is this unusual? thread started by Kandinsky.

I don’t usually pay attention to the GN link, so couldn’t tell you if there has been a link to your thread.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 12:54:36

Why don’t you join Mumsnet EP and reproduce your thread there?
It would be a much easier and straightforward way to go about things.
MN has many male contributors and members of all ages. There’s nothing to be scared of!

Well I felt a bit awkward about being here until I saw it says Grandparents and over 50s.

I really could not in good conscience post on Mumsnet.

If they were to have Poetsnet or Authorsnet or GlutenAvoidingVegansNet then yes.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 14:22:38

I do see your point.
I don’t think that they do themselves any favours with the names of their sites.
But they know best, I’m sure.

I feel too old for mumsnet so I don’t go on it. My daughters are all in their 40s and they are all mums so I figure it would be more their sort of thing. Not that they would go on it.

Clearly not.

Why? Has a fight broken out and there is lots of swearing?

I think FC is winding you up EP I don’t think you would be comfortable on Mumsnet from the bits I ve heard about it ( I ve never been on it) I think I d be uncomfortable on it too

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 16:13:22

I wasn’t actually at all BlueBelle
There are a lot of assumptions about MN by people who haven’t even had a good look around.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 16:14:51

In fact, re-reading by post, and the subsequent one, it’s clear that I was being quite straightforward.

BlueBelle Tue 28-Sep-21 16:21:58

Ok but it wasn’t clear to me FC I don’t see why an elderly gentleman would be encouraged to go on a mums thread
I haven’t been on mumsnet because I m way out of the age group it represents and having seen bits and bobs reported on here doesn’t sound a forum that would entice me

JaneJudge Tue 28-Sep-21 16:25:06

Anyone is allowed to go on mumsnet BlueBelle, well most people

Jaxjacky Tue 28-Sep-21 16:51:07

I’ve been on mumsnet, had a nosy around, then made a swift retreat.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 16:53:52

Honestly, BB, there are loads of ‘older’ women on there, in their 60s, 70s and older.
There is enormous breadth there too, loads of different topics.
It’s far more broad minded and inclusive than on here.
This is why I am said that the name of the site (not thread) does it no favours.
I’m not here for an argument

Chewbacca Tue 28-Sep-21 17:14:34

I would have to agree with BlueBelle @ 15.58.
ElderlyPerson I'm a member of MN as well and, imo, it's even more of a bear pit there than it is here sometimes. Most people here are getting to know you now and, I think, you're finding your feet a little more? Just stand your ground!

Mumsnet

There is a clue in the title!

ElderlyPerson Tue 28-Sep-21 17:39:32

Mumsnet

It is, in my opinion, a good title to use so as to advertise a forum intended for Mothers, with Mothers being women with one or more children, whether by biological birth or legal adoption.

Gransnet

A big of an awkward name if it is intended for everyone over 50 whether a grandparent or not.

It does seem to indicate that it is for grandparents or even just grandmothers.

Would a name such as Over50net be better?

Maybe not as it would lose a link of being related to Mumsnet and might sound more like a dating site and perhaps such an impression would put a lot of people off.

sodapop Tue 28-Sep-21 17:39:50

Spot on Chewbacca Well said.

ElderlyPerson Tue 28-Sep-21 17:42:49

A bit of an awkward name ...

MerylStreep Tue 28-Sep-21 17:54:54

ElderlyPerson
Here is a site for over 50s
No hint of it being a dating site.

I am on MN a lot I would say that men generally are treated in a less deferential way than on heregrin.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Sep-21 18:30:29

And as sure as night follows day! grin
