I am pretty hopeless at remembering names on here - apart from others who’ve been around from the beginning and haven’t name changed, but I have noticed that there seems to be quite a lot of new posters recently. Well, names that I don’t recognise anyway.

So, hello and welcome if that’s you. smile I wonder what prompted you to join, do you have a favourite thread and how are you finding your experience so far?

(I was very tempted to put ‘answers on a postcard please’, am I showing my age?) grin

Hi @grannyactivist - I'm pretty new (month) and only really started posting yesterday and today. I started out over yonder but lately it seems to have become a who can insult who worse than everyone else! I started reading a few threads here and it was SO refreshing that it's not like that here x
I don't have 'grandchildren' yet, but I do have three handsome men 26, 18 & 16 - so when the pitter patter of tiny feet start, (from the 26yr old, not the other two for a good few years yet) this is definitely the place I want to be ??

You’ll find it’s not always sweetness and light over here HappyBumbleBee, but if ever you need support this is a great place to come. If you are of a timid disposition maybe approach the political threads with caution. grin

Oh - and you don’t have to be a grandparent to be most welcome. No doubt we’ll get to share the joy when it finally does happen.

Haha I'm certainly not timid grannyactivist but I'll still be steering clear of the political threads ?
I am originally from the UK but live in Ireland now - politics in both countries send my blood pressure soaring x
I'm sure it's not always sweetness and light, as with everything in life, but at least it isn't swamping the board here x
Thankyou for your lovely welcome too ❤️

Welcome HBB....this was my bit of heaven when things between older son, d.i.l. and myself were rocky, to say the least. (glad to say , things are better now). Ther are some true angels here.

HappyBumbleBee Thu 14-Nov-19 23:56:26

Thanks crazyH a few months back things were getting a bit fraught with soon and his girlfriend over different things and I was kind of stuck in the middle - I wish I were here then as I probably would have posted instead of it all whizzing around in my head driving me nuts! Glad things are better for you now and everything settled here eventually, thank goodness!
I've absolutely no doubt I'll be looking for willing ears at some point though so I'm very happy to be here ?❤️

Welcome from me too HBB - I have been on Gransnet for over 3 years and am so glad that I found it.
I avoid the political threads too and
I hope you enjoy being on here as much as I do!! grin

Yes welcome here too Happybumblebee always lots of help and advice on GN. Strong feelings on the politics threads and some acerbic comments on others. It's all good fun though.winesmile

I've been on GN since the beginning and it was my first venture into online forums. I remember being very nervous when I made my first post, but loved the idea of having a virtual community to belong to. My daughter had been widowed a year previously and I was spending almost all my time supporting her and her new baby. It was good to have somewhere just for me.

The first Christmas we were much fewer in number and we had a GN online chat and I remember how excited I was to hear the voices of the other grans. Since then I've been to quite few meet ups, although not as many as I would have liked, and GN is now woven into the fabric of my days.

Hi I'm new nanny to 15 month twins they are my world. Too much though and I'm struggling to see them more than once every 2 to 3 weeks. I've not been asked to help with baby sitting and it breaks my heart. I'm 55 and godparents come before me. Luckily I'm lose to my son who se ds pics most days. DIL Says she knows I'm here but is not ready for me to have them? Surely my absolute love and care is better than a godparent? They would be given my attention and love all day long. My son says its her anxiety that she needs to do what she thinks is right. I just keep crying

SUPERG33 your grandchildren will be no doubt be a handful and are still very young. I doubt very much whether your daughter-in-law is questioning your love for them and you are most definitely not in competition with the Godparents. For now, just be happy that you're getting daily photo's and take the view that relationships will build up over time, especially as you are seeing them fairly often.

The best advice I can give you is that you support your son and daughter-in-law in the choices they make and if they experience you doing that they will trust you when the time is right for you to be more involved with the little ones.

There's a great thread that's been running for ages in the Gransnet cafe to welcome new members. I'm hoping this one will move people to start posting more on the general threads so we get to know you a bit better.

MsSalander Sat 16-Nov-19 21:56:03

Hi <waves> I’m a refugee from Mumsnet. I’ve been there for over a decade (various user names posting mainly on the relationship and employment boards) but as I’m in my fifties now, I feel a little ... adrift over there so thought I’d come over here instead so I dont have to explain about decimal currency and what Tiswas was. grin

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to joining in as I miss the old camaraderie that was once on Mumsnet.

MsSalander Sat 16-Nov-19 22:00:13

Oh and I’m currently single and childfree but have been in three long term, cohabiting relationships in the past and have been a step mum to partner’s children. Still working (HR) but very much enjoying a quieter pace as I can set my own hours now.

Hello MsSalander good to hear from you and have young people on GN grin
I'm guessing you like Stieg Larsson.

CosyCrafter Sun 17-Nov-19 16:19:15

Hi, thanks for the welcome, there is a lot of stuff on here. I live in a different country to my children and grandchild and really want to move back and be more useful.. not sure my DiL is so keen, i'm feeling a bit of distance from her since we announced selling up and moving back hence my joining this group hoping to get some guidance and other's experiences.

Grandmajanet55 Mon 18-Nov-19 12:48:26

Hi.. I'm new on here, I originally was in Mumsnet (well still am)..then saw this one via a link.. and thought why not more my age group..
Haven't commented yet.. be rest assured I will ?

grannyactivist Mon 18-Nov-19 12:54:34

MsSalander and Grandmajanet55 several of our posters in the early days crossed over from 'the other place' and some kept a foot in both camps. It's good that we're still getting that cross-over.
