Do NOT order from them!

Items are NOTHING like the pictures, and they are a nightmare to deal with!

Namsnanny Sat 01-Aug-20 15:29:38

Thank you phoenix for the heads up!

phoenix Sat 01-Aug-20 15:38:16

You're welcome, Namsnanny I ordered a top that looked ok, grey with daisies on.

Looked like a sort of crinkle fabric, arrived and was horrid shiny polyester, the sort that cheap nightdresses or slips might be made of. angry.

Trying to return the ghastly thing, big hassle so far.

annsixty Sat 01-Aug-20 15:59:08

A family member ordered four things from one of theses websites.
They really were rubbish.
To send them back is a nightmare with the customer paying postage to China, it is common apparently for them to deny receiving them.
She has been trying to get redress from PayPal with no success.
Avoid all theses sites like the plague.

Namsnanny Sat 01-Aug-20 16:44:09

Oh dear phoenix, I really liked that top too! I kept on thinking I should send for it.
Grrrrr!angry on your behalf.
Is it connected to the site which advertise some lovely shoes I wonder?
I hope you get some kind of compensation soon! smile

Is anything good coming out of China these days?

phoenix Sat 01-Aug-20 16:50:51

Namsnanny there is believe a connection to another site, but not sure which one.

Do you think GNHQ ought to consider who they let advertise on this site?

I know caveat emptor and all that, but still.........

MaizieD Sat 01-Aug-20 16:59:12

I've had, successively, over the past few months adverts for 'Flora.. something, (can't exactly remember), New Chic and now Airy. The stuff they are advertising all looks identical and I suspect that it's the same organisation changing its name...

Does Gnet actually have a choice over who advertises on the site? Sometimes the side bar adverts I get are directly related to something I've recently searched for.

merlotgran Sat 01-Aug-20 16:59:20

I bought a black top from them last year that I thought would be loose and made of fabric like cheesecloth.

Same thing happened. Shiny material and more like a fitted blouse which I definitely didn't want.

I've never worn it.

EllanVannin Sat 01-Aug-20 17:02:43

The material looks like the stuff that whole animals are wrapped in at the butchers.

Sussexborn Sat 01-Aug-20 17:09:11

Thanks for the warning. Thank goodness I have recently taken up prevaricating to the extent of not yet ordering anything. Guess at the moment GN have to go with anyone willing to cough up though it won’t enhance their reputation. My mum used to say that you are judged by the company you keep.

janeainsworth Sat 01-Aug-20 17:11:26

Well Airy has just popped up on my page. It used to be Floryday or something similar.
The prices are ridiculous. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I looked at one of the tops. It clearly said it was made of polyester.

MerylStreep Sat 01-Aug-20 17:19:19

My next warning on FB will be a lifetime ban. Why, because I've been scathing about these sites. This one that's mentioned here steels photos from a site called Lulu's.
Perhaps if more people joined us on FB ( the scumbags favoured market place) something might get done.
I'm not bothering to fight for others anymore. We all have a voice ( or fingers ?)
For those who want to know who's going to rip them off look at a site called Written with love it lists all the scammers who want to take your money for crap clothing. Many don't even receive the crap.
GN say there is nothing they can do about these adds.

Elegran Sat 01-Aug-20 17:22:39

MaisieD Phoenix I think Granset subscribes to a service that puts ads on the page automatically when it sees key words. Gransnet gets a tiny remuneration each time someone clicks on one (something like a penny a click!). They don't have a choice in what is advertised. You can object to someone about an ad or the site that it is advertising. There is a button somewhere on it to report it. (It may be the ad agency that you report it to)

Sunlover Sat 01-Aug-20 18:59:45

I did look at buying from this site but was astonished at the low prices. Did a bit of googling and read dreadful reports. One of my friends did order stuff and it never arrived.

felice Sat 01-Aug-20 19:01:40

All I have been getting for a while is for anti-wrinkle cream in Dutch.
No idea why as I never buy anything online, and the woman in the ad looks more wrinkled than I am!!!!!

phoenix Sat 01-Aug-20 19:08:20

Mine arrived, and in a way I wish it hadn't!

Juliet27 Sat 01-Aug-20 19:14:15

Thanks for that phoenix. It was only yesterday I was thinking I liked the look of some of the tops but like Sunlover I googled reviews and that decided me to avoid ordering.

GagaJo Sat 01-Aug-20 19:34:03

The one website that lots of my contacts have been using and raving about is Shein. They have a HUGE variety of stuff, even by online standards. I haven't bought anything from them, but probably will at some point. They DID have a fabulous dress on there that I loved, but typically, it was sold out in all but a tiny size.

The people I know who have bought from it say it is important to buy by the measurements of each piece, rather than the size, because they vary by garment.

MerylStreep Sat 01-Aug-20 20:39:48

Gagajo
Your right, Shein aren't on the list but Sheinlove are. ?

Sunlover Sat 01-Aug-20 21:21:36

I think I also checked reviews for Shein. They were not very good. I think once again the clothes come from China and returning them is difficult.

I haven't seen them on FB but it is a disgrace that you are threatened with a ban, MerylStreep for highlighting a problem with what are, essentially, scammers.

GNHQ have been alerted to this previously but appear not to do anything about this problem.

Revenue?

Grannynise Sat 01-Aug-20 22:09:32

I have an advertisement for Airy just below your first post Phoenix, so I don't think they're bothered about our opinions at all! hmm

GagaJo Sat 01-Aug-20 22:12:13

Sunlover

I think you have accept there is no returning possible Sunlover.

Bathsheba Sat 01-Aug-20 22:20:20

They are an utter disgrace. They steal photos from lots of genuine sellers, trying to make a living on places like Etsy. Beautiful clothes, often obviously unique and hand embroidered or embellished in some way, selling for absurdly low prices. But people fall for it and get sent absolute trash. I now never order from any 'new to me' site without Googling reviews first.

I really do think it is shocking that GN has no say in what adverts appear on their site. This has got to be wrong, and it's about time something was done to stop these scammers.

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 05-Aug-20 17:52:55

Hi all,

It sounds like these are ads that are being pulled in from Google and not companies that GN is in partnership with.

If you do see any ads like this, please can you email the URL of the ad to [email protected] so we can take a look and try and get this sorted. smile
