A "Back to Top" button at the bottom of the page? I long for this every time I have to scroll back up on my laptop using the side bar, or up arrow. Not such a problem on a phone or iPad, but on a PC it would be SOOOOOO useful!

Sparklefizz Sat 08-Aug-20 08:16:21

I would prefer a "Like" option for posts.

Sparklefizz

I would prefer a "Like" option for posts.

That one has been requested over and over and over again, and always refused. No point asking, it ain't gonna happen!

Charleygirl5 Sat 08-Aug-20 08:19:45

I agree with both.

Bathsheba if you want to whizz back to the top without scrolling, just point to any of the other thread titles and you will be back to "active" in nanoseconds.

Hmm, am I being a bit dense here? I don't really know what you mean. Here's a screenshot, where I'm at the bottom of a page. Where are the other thread titles I can point to?

OK, so I've just looked at GN on my iPhone and see that the mobile site does have a 'back to top' button. So why doesn't the desktop site have this?

Lucca Sat 08-Aug-20 08:45:50

I’d much prefer the OP posts to be highlighted in green all through the thread. It might solve the perennial issue of OP saying “ it’s OK I sortex the problem” Which is then folllowed by a load of posts by people who don’t read anything but the original post..........??

Bathsheba Sat 08-Aug-20 08:54:20

I agree Lucca, but it doesn't have to be an either/or request. Why can't we have both?

ladymuck Sat 08-Aug-20 08:57:19

I think a 'like' button is vital. Many times, several people are of the same viewpoint. It would reduce repeat posts if we could simply 'like' what someone else has said.
Other sites have it, why not this one?

Maggiemaybe Sat 08-Aug-20 09:13:23

The Like button would be useful sometimes, but would have have disadvantages too.

New and less confident members often say that they feel excluded when their posts aren’t acknowledged and the conversation of “regulars” just carries on around them.

Of course this isn’t deliberate - those who post on the “cosy” threads every day are bound to get to know each other and chat elsewhere on the forum - but the likelihood is that those same regulars getting dozens of Likes for every post would make newcomers feel even less welcome.

I really would like to see all OP posts highlighted though. Some have said this happens already on their phones, but it certainly doesn’t on mine.

Another vote here for highlighting all posts on the thread that have been made by the O.P.

If Mumsnet can have it, why can't we?

ninathenana Sat 08-Aug-20 10:23:22

You can substitute the "like" for ?

MiniMoon Sat 08-Aug-20 10:29:47

There is a back to top button at the bottom of the page on the mobile site.
I don't have a computer or laptop, I have a tablet.

I too would like highlighted OP as the thread progresses.

MaizieD Sat 08-Aug-20 10:31:58

Don't you have a 'Home' key on your laptop, Bathsheba?

Every single PC and laptop I've ever had (and that's several) had a 'Home' button. Just press that and you're back to the top. (And the 'End' button takes you to the bottom of the page)

MaizieD Sat 08-Aug-20 10:32:45

Great minds, MiniMoon! grin

MaizieD Sat 08-Aug-20 10:34:39

Oh no,. I didn't read your post properly, MiniMoon. . Scrub the 'great minds', we were talking about different things. OP has already said that she uses the 'back to top' button on her phone.

Alexa Sat 08-Aug-20 11:02:11

Thanks Maizie !

Haha, can't believe I'd forgotten all about the home button!!! Thanks for the reminder MaizieD grin

JackyB Sat 08-Aug-20 11:40:14

Just to add to what Maizie says:

If you are using Windows 10, you will have to press the little button next to the Windows button as well as the Home Key. I don't know what it's called on the UK keyboard, it's "Fn" on the German one.

(Between Ctrl and the Windows Logo at the bottom left)

Bathsheba Sat 08-Aug-20 11:50:10

I'm on Windows 8.1 so the home button works just fine by itself. But a handy hint for others who may be on Windows 10, thanks JackyB.

Bathsheba Sat 08-Aug-20 11:51:15

Oh and meant to add: it's fn on my keyboard - I believe it stands for function.

Maggiemaybe Sun 09-Aug-20 08:33:37

I can’t believe this. I thought I was tech savvy and have used computers for more years than I care to remember, and I have never come across the Home and End keys! blush

That Home key was a game changer when I was doing my groceries order last night, so thanks, Maizie!

I feel just like I did when I discovered you didn’t have to take a baby’s vest off over its head.....

Hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions. A like button isn't something we can do, but we will certainly look into whether we can add a 'back to the top' button on desktop and highlight the OP's posts. flowers

Lucca Mon 10-Aug-20 21:42:58

And Natasha how about highlighting the ops comments too please

Bathsheba Mon 10-Aug-20 21:58:27

Lucca isn't that what Natasha has said in the last sentence: "and highlight the OP's posts"?
