They might seem like bricks and mortar, but homes hold a lot of memories that make you feel attached to them. But the desire to move home - whether that’s to be closer to family, to have more money to do the things you love, or to achieve a more relaxed lifestyle - can outweigh that attachment, and Willerby would like to hear about what encourages you to consider a home move.

Here’s what Willerby has to say: ‘Willerby has been creating homes for over 70 years and are exceptionally experienced when it comes to making quality homes that are truly built to last. Our designers have created the perfect blend of style and practicality in all our park homes with amazing space saving ideas, luxurious touches and beautiful interiors and exteriors. Our park homes are built to last and offer stylish, low maintenance living for those who want to paint landscapes, not the hallway! View, download or order your brochure here. Get inspiration and details for our range of homes.’

Do you move home often for a change in scenery? What makes you think about moving now? Would it be to downsize? Release money for retirement? To achieve a more relaxed lifestyle? Perhaps you’d consider moving to be closer to family? Or maybe it’s appealing because you get the freedom to start from scratch with your design ideas?

Whatever the things that make you consider moving home, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £200 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Being a Military family, we up sticks and move quite frequently, sometimes into Military Accommodation and sometimes to an area of choice where it's easily commutable for work. However I love watching the housing programmes to see what's out there and what pitfalls to avoid

Now in our 70s we find the place too big to handle ..just waiting to see if this 80 percent inheritance tax is actually happening. When and if it does you won't see us for dust!

We live in the town centre and after covid 19 I am looking into moving to the Scottish highlands or somewhere quiet. My beauty’s not good so some where with lots of fresh air would be a bonus. I am Constantly looking at properties to rent as at the moment I cannot afford to get onto the property ladder. ?

if had money i would consider moving to a more accessible home/bungalow nearer the coast (husband loves Cornwall). since becoming disabled a home with a downstairs toilet/wet room, a downstairs room could convert to bedroom for gran, less/no steps outside and a driveway/garage for wheelchair has become important. but would still have to have a beautiful view and garden as i currently have.

We are currently looking to move into a larger home. The house we are in was a panic purchase. We had sold our flat so fast we hadnt found anywhere to live with our two sons. We landed up staying with our in-laws. This was tough on all as our newborn had really bad colic and reflux so no one was getting much sleep. We came across a 2 bed detached and bought it. However, its been the biggest regret of my life. I dont enjoy where I live and we have been here 6 years. We now have a daughter so wee need a bigger house to accomodate all. We would love to go more costal and my husband would love some land with the house. The kids all have big plans too for where we live. I would just love to move somewhere that their is community spirit.

Oh I would love fresh air & no big traffic noises! Most importantly I want a room for a big table for my family to come & share a family meal ...

The home and area has to feed my soul so pleasant area and attractive building.
Light, airy, modern. Low maintenance. At least two bedrooms. One ensuite. Family bathroom. Kitchen big enough for fridge-freezer, washer-dryer, and must have room for dish washer.
Cash left over from my house sale to give me choices.
Enough garden to grow a few things, and sit out, but not enough to become a chore.
A sense of community, and good transport links if I need them.
Amenities reachable by good infrastructure.
No compromises just a new beginning.

A property with a sea view, a pub nearby and miles of country side behind would encourage me to move.

I don't think I could face moving house. Such an awful upheaval and being by myself it is not something I would consider.

I would love to move to a property with a bigger garden or a rural area. Outdoor space and greenery is so important to me and my mental health.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused many people to re-evaluate their lives and consider how best to improve the future. After eventually being allowed across the border just 2 weeks ago into Wales to visit my 98 year old Dad, who has continued to live independently throughout the pandemic, it was great to be able to spend a few days on the coast in West Wales. We felt that we had 'escaped' and been able to regain some freedom once again. It was relaxing and calming watching the waves lapping the shoreline and it made us think about maybe downsizing our home and buying an apartment or small property to use as a more regular bolthole. Is it just a pipe dream or will we eventually realise our dream? Who knows? Only time will tell. ?

I would ideally love a garden and to smell the sea. In my dreams.....!

I do love my little house which I bought myself through years of work and saving. What would make me move ? If I won some money so I could buy a bigger detached house with a sea view, if I just couldn’t manage the stairs anymore or if I had really bad neighbours. I do look at other properties for sale but I can’t really see anything nicer than my little palace .

I live in the house my parents owned, it overlooks fields and an artificial ski slope - Great views all seasons..
I have refurbished it to my style.
Although they are no longer here in body ... I do always feel warm, safe and protected.
I live alone ..by choice , but never feel it.
Although there are lots of wear and tear repairs cropping up, only if I could not meet them would I move.

What will make me move is finding a home in a village, or a small town, so close to all amenities that I could simply walk everywhere.

Meggas Sun 26-Jul-20 16:06:11

I’ve just retired and with a few medical issues we are considering moving to a bungalow. Easier said than done! Bungalows are few and far between and more expensive! But for a goal to aim for it’s a good idea so we are keeping our eyes open and if the right one comes up near us we will go for it.

HHBBNN54 Mon 27-Jul-20 10:22:58

If I could sell my current property and buy somewhere near coast not too busy but with amenities like supermarket, pharmacy and with a public transport route available

elfies Tue 28-Jul-20 12:18:30

We made our move only this week !
We've lived remotely for thirty three years and its been wonderful , views and walks to die for .
Terminal illness and the need to be near doctors, chemists and bus routes made our choice for us,and now we've done it,we've realised we should have made a move years ago . No views admittedly, but ohh the convenience !

Revolucion Tue 28-Jul-20 20:29:19

Homes have memories but because of this they can keep you in the past.
I’d like to move to a place that reflects my wants and needs as they are right now. Ideally, I’d like to be able to hear the waves of the sea as I fall asleep each night. There is something about being near the sea that is so great for my emotional and mental health.
I’d like to have a dog so I would want hard floors downstairs and a downstairs wet room for dirty dogs!

We moved after 38 years from a semi detached house to a lovely detached bungalow. The reason we sold up was bad neighbours on both sides and the road full of renters who dont care about their gardens or houses. Our new road is great and our new neighbours are brilliant .

janipans Fri 31-Jul-20 10:26:53

We live on the outskirts of a large village but would love to live in the village so we could get rid of 1 of our cars and walk to the shops, hairdressers, pubs etc. Unfortunately, properties in our price range rarely come up.
We have looked at a few houses but the gardens were too small (we want less than our 130 feet but more than a postage stamp!)
Hoping something will come up whilst this stamp duty offer is applicable.

daisybeebee Fri 31-Jul-20 15:26:05

I would move to a smaller property with less upkeep but this is not currently possible due to family living with me after redundancy and my daughter not yet having finished education.

albertina Sat 01-Aug-20 11:53:32

I have just come to the decision to move. I am going to move to be near my elder daughter who has been a wonderful support during the last few years. It's a huge decision for me, but I have to be realistic and understand that I will need help in the next years.

I have been in my present house for 25 years and have raised my two daughters alone here. It's a bit big for me now and the upkeep of the house and the garden is proving stressful for me.

Up till a few years ago I had perfect neighbours but six years ago a hoodlum moved in next door and has radically altered the atmosphere here. Everyone is frightened of him. I didn't decide to go exclusively because of him, but he certainly helped the final decision.

Good luck to anyone else in this position

I am moving home and there are many reasons but Covid is one. I'm moving to a more rural area, away from the seaside that has been taken over by visitors. I'm also moving because of lack of parking which has got worse since I moved here due to non residents parking in our 'residents only' parking.
