Every 2 years I deck the car with England flags for either the World Cup or Euros. This year, I have England wing mirror covers too. The flags are not usually on for long, but I never give up hope of a 1966 repeat performance.

First England match just about to kick off, but it's being Sky-plussed to watch later as grandsons are here for tea.

So I'll now have to steeer clear of GN, Twitter, Facebook, News etc smile

Come on England!!

I'll probably watch the match with OH but I don't think much of our chances Notsogrand.. enjoy.. {grin}

effblinder Mon 11-Jun-12 17:13:56

I'm watching! Probably going to be walkover but you never know.

Jacey Mon 11-Jun-12 17:16:08

Not really ...but am keeping an eye on this game hmm

crimson Mon 11-Jun-12 18:10:27

Not the same without Beckham and Michael Owen, these days.

kittylester Mon 11-Jun-12 18:23:58

No option in this house! I'm out numbered!

Ariadne Mon 11-Jun-12 18:25:13

Oh no! But won't interfere with others' enjoyment.

Humbertbear Mon 11-Jun-12 18:35:30

I'm the only one interested in this house. My husband is cooking supper and I'm watching. Should have gone to my son's house. All three GC eating supper in front of tv.

I have to show some interest with us lving within 1/2 hr of Anfield and having 2 x DSs and 5 x DGSs who all support the Reds along with mr.glamma Youngest DGS has stayed the past two days and it is lovely to see him and his grandpa chatting away when the game is on,the little chap has worn his L.pool kit every day so as soon as he goes to bed it is washed and dried for the next morning.

I've said for years that we'll never do well unless we have a world class goalkeeper [defence not being very exciting]. I'm rather out of touch at the moment but would hazard a guess that we still haven't got one.

glammanana Mon 11-Jun-12 19:44:29

I used to be able to reel off the name of the whole team the only one's I know now are Stevie Gerrard and Rooney blush

Notsogrand Mon 11-Jun-12 20:09:35

A draw against the French is a good result for our opening match.

May have been a different scoreline if the referee understood that he was also allowed to give yellow cards to the French.

glassortwo Mon 11-Jun-12 20:19:42

Well done England that was a good result against the French, and yes I agree we need a top class goal keeper......I only saw the goals and not the whole match, so I am not basing that on tonight's performance

Jacey Mon 11-Jun-12 20:39:42

Notso grin

crimson Mon 11-Jun-12 20:49:59

The S.O. tells me we have got a good goalkeeper [and he's huge, which helps!]. glammanana; thank goodness it's not just me..I've just seen the players being interviewed and I only knew Gerrard blush.

I agree with Notsogrand its difficult to beat 12 men! Anyway there are no real expectations so there can be no real disappointments. Come on England smile

Thinking about how much I used to love football and realising how little interest I have in it now made me remember a Czeck player called Pavel Nedved. Does anyone remember him? Not only was he very gorgeous, but he was an amazing player. I don't know much about the sport, but I do know when I'm watching someone who's good. Are there any players to look out for at the moment?

Pete Tue 12-Jun-12 23:59:03

Crimson, Yes Nedved wasn't a bad player! Not too many players to look out for in the Euros, as they seem to spend most of the time rolling around as if they have just been shot!

Notsogrand Wed 13-Jun-12 07:20:45

Maybe the low expectations will help the players Pete? Less hysteria in the media etc. Fingers crossed for Friday!

Pete Wed 13-Jun-12 10:24:43

You would hope so Notsogrand no pressure in the build-up, but you just watch the hysteria kick in if (when)! we win on Friday!! I'm ready now..flags out, beer in fridge lol. Enjoy the match!

I don't mind DH watching the games, but have no interest in football or really any sport, so this summer is a bit of a marathon for me - in endurance, that is! We seem to have made a smooth transition from rugby, a little cricket, snooker and then to football, via the French Tennis Open, with only a week to non-stop Wimbledon. Fortunately, he has no special interest in the Olympics, or so he says!

cheerleader Wed 13-Jun-12 21:28:10

I'm a big fan and am looking forward to Friday's game. I thought we did alright against France, and as you say, Notso, the low expectations might help. Good year for footy this year, with Chelsea winning the FA Cup and the Champions League grin

Am I the only one here who thinks the England football players are overpaid, under-worked prima-donas? I used to love football, - taken as a little girl with my dad to watch the local team, supported my husband's team in my teens, and he later became a referee, which he gave up, because he decided he was only stopping players from injuring each other, rather than controlling the playing. He still enjoys the game (could obviously referee better than any other referee!), but unfortunately I just find something else to do when footie is on the screen. I also have a son in law who e-mails me all the latest news about his particular team!

NannaB Thu 14-Jun-12 08:01:31

Shame Harry Rednapp isnt running the team. Especially as available now!!

effblinder Fri 15-Jun-12 18:02:47

So I was plonked down in front of the telly an hour ago and have had to wait an hour for France-Ukraine to restart!

Trying to work out who I should be cheering on for England to go through - anyone know?
