Goodness me, is it not amazing what men can construct when they put their minds to it? These "yachts" are something else.
And another goodness me - what find specimens of masculine athleticism!

I so agree with you on both counts smile

Too true.

Just heard an interview with Ben Ainsley and he said we have a maritime heritage and he would like to see a British team. Fingers crossed, he certainly seems to be the man to do it.

Have to admit it's not a sport I have followed but certainly will be looking for it now.

All those men in uniform/bondage gear caused a flutter did they hebridean ?

I have been watching the races all week. The USA catching up the way they did was spectacular, Ben Ainsley did seem to help them out of a tight spot. The boats were amazing, I never normally watch sport but I loved it. It was lovely to watch real men in action

My son posted a joke on FB

Why do women love Americans? Because they can stay on top all week and still come second.

My Kiwi relatives are properly cheesed off sad. Tough!

It seems to be something of a national tragedy here and I would guess the pain in Auckland is acute. The obsessive attention to the races was beginning to get on my nerves. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…

It was the Ainsley strategic brilliance factor!

JessM Oh yes, that well known American sailor. grin

I did get confused hearing it on the news, not helped by the fact that I got the name mixed up with Ainsley Harriott at first..confused

It's the eerie sound of the stresses that gets to me. It's like whale music and just adds to the awesomeness of it all.

OMG just watched the highlights. Those things actually fly don't they, all but a couple of tiny "wings" in the water.

Fantastic viewing but such a shame it was on TV at 1.30 pm for highlights, when many enthusiasts didn't even know! We were told by DIL that we could watch live on You Tube, so managed the exciting Final huddled in front of our Apple Mac!!
I can understand Robin Knox-Johnson's frustration that there is not enough publicity given to sailing, many people have small dinghies and enjoy sailing, surely a couple of hours less football wouldn't be a bad idea?grin
