Any cricket fans here? As discussed on the Relationship thread I'm splitting up with my partner. We're both cricket fans but unlikely to be going together now.

I'm off to the Test Match on my own today. Would be good to hear from other cricketing grandparents!

Sorry to hear that you are splitting up. Cricket to me is like watching paint dry.

Hello BGB31 Cricket fan here, and envy you the trip to the Test Match today, although I think it would be just a little too hot for me. I was watching cricket in the local park on the day war was declared and remember quite clearly the aircraft flying low overhead, and the panic to get home. So been a fan for several years. Not a very good match for England this one, but it has been very good test series, although I get a bit fed up with the Pakistani's antics at times, but then that is probably just because I am cross that they have taken another wicket! Been to Leeds several times, lovely little cricket ground there.

DH loves it and has often been to the test matches at Trent Bridge on his own as its not for me (other than the bar that is). He has given up going as its a bit lonely on your own - are you anywhere near TB?

Oh please take me to the Test Match. Can you make a round trip to Northumberland and pick me up, I'm all ready to go. I love cricket but never get enough time to watch it. Mr. hjj isn't interested at all.

I used to go to Tests with my family, particularly DS2 who loved the game and was quite a ferocious fast bowler. I liked the feel of Trent Bridge in the 1980s and we saw a lot of good matches there.

My husband often watches cricket , especially the 20/20s .
I'm not so keen but it's OK. 20/20s are sometimes exciting.
He watches on the 'puter in his office - I expect he has the Test Match on now.

It was lovely to log on here and see all your replies - thank you. Even those of you who mistakenly think it's boring grin

Well I enjoyed myself today at the Oval - even though England lost it was a good atmosphere.

Teetime- I've never been to Trent Bridge, but would like too one day.

I've been to Headingley, Edgbaston, Cardiff, Durham, Lords & the Oval. I live in London so Lords & the Ival are fairly easy for me.

Thanks again - great to your memories and thoughts.

DH would love to go to Lords it would be like to going to church for him but he says its impossible to get tickets.

PRINTMISS Mon 15-Aug-16 09:26:08

A pity England lost that particular game, but I think a drawn series is a fair result. The trouble with watching cricket on television, is I do so long to be there, in the crowd and watching the reaction of everyone. So pleased I got the experience when I was young and able!

Yes PRINTMISS and I haven't got Sky so rarely see any on television. I do love Test Match Special though - the sound of summer!

Teetime - yes Lords does feel a bit special I think. It depends what tickets your DH wants really - test matches are difficult - the Ashes very difficult. But you can often get One Day match tickets or T20. They're not cheap though. I was amazed at the difference in price for matches at Leeds, Durham etc.

Charleygirl, You could be right, watching a very hard ball hurtling towards you at eighty odd MPH can be a bit like watching paint dry. Now football, Watching 22 men kicking a ball end to end and OCCASIONALLY scoring a goal, that is a big YAWN. grin

Teetime Fri 10-Mar-17 16:14:29

DH has an interview on Sunday to be a helper (Cricketeer) on the Womens Cricket World Cup in Leicester- I'm going shopping!
