I play tennis at least once a week with friends. Weather permitting, it’s a shame there aren’t any indoor courts handy.
We try to play well but there’s no pressure.
Great game and as you only need 2 players it’s a little easier to have an impromptu game than netball. It also takes a lot less time than golf for example.
I could go along to the club but there will always be those there that need to win and put the pressure on. Been there, done that.

If you want to start a club the Croquet Association give you the equipment and then you can apply for grants from Sport England. Its very popular and everyone can play whatever their ability.

I like the sound of a croquet club, must see if there is one locally...

The tennis is off at the moment but Walking Netball is going well. I really enjoy it.

Yes I saw that it looked intriguing. I haven't got the energy or the time to start up yet another group but I wish I had. I think some of our members would be interested and I know just where to do it and possibly the man to start it.

Teetime, I haven't played tennis for many a year, but, yesterday? I watched a recording of Escape to the Country, I know grin and there was a short bit showing the game of Crolf, that he had invented. A cross between Croquet and Golf. Looked like a bit of fun.

I had to give this up after a few weeks as my back and knee didn't like it. I started a Croquet Club in the summer which is going well and a Walking Netball group which has 20 members now and going well too- still playing golf so far. Enjoy the tennis pittcity are you still going to Walking Netball?

I had a go at tennis in the summer. The coach had some beginner's balls which gave us confidence having not played for many years. We were lucky that he lent us rackets and recommended the correct weight and size for each individual. We bought cheap ones from Argos or Sports direct to begin with.

Tennis more properly, long tennis, derives from the ancient game of court tennis. Introduced in the United States shortly after major walter Clopton wing-field demonstrated a game he called Sphairistike.

I hadn't thought of tennis, but only this afternoon I have been looking for a local 'walking netball' group. Sadly the nearest is some way away and is on Sundays from 8.30-9.30pm, which doesn't appeal.
I was a poor tennis player although I did enjoy it, but might have more luck finding somewhere local. My nickname at school was 'Sorry Sally' due to my frequent apologies to my doubles partner!
I hope you enjoy the group Teetime. The racquets have improved since the old wooden ones from the past, maybe they make you play better!smile I wonder what the dress code will be? I would prefer to wear capri length bottoms.

I am about to join (I think) a new tennis group for older adults not having played for a bout 20 years and then badly. I was looking for something other than golf which sometimes gets a bit samey and the conversations are dull (golf post-mortems usually). I was wondering if any other Gransnetters are playing tennis and if they have any tips re equipment etc.
