I have watched, and enjoyed, football, well most of the time anyway, but now feel so disillusioned , briefly, I want to watch football, not my team. or any team. kneeling before the match

earnshaw what is your game ? This is the third time ( at least ) that you have posted this ?

Yes it's amazing the things some people obsess over.

Lucca Sun 15-Nov-20 19:04:45

Well don’t watch then. You can’t be much of a fan if this stops you watching. Personally it would make me watch all the more.

CherryCezzy Sun 15-Nov-20 19:10:03

Why ever not? It's not during the match is it? Like you say I want to watch football and the kneeling is before the match. It's not stopping you watch the football match is it?
You say you feel so disillusioned . What, because the players take the knee before the match?
The players kneel for a brief amount of time. It's not interfering in the play, it's not adding time to the match.
It doesn't affect the score. It doesn't change the game.

US Soccer apologized to Megan Rapinoe 4 years after she was criticized for being one of the first athletes to kneel in support of Colin Kaepernick

Megan Rapinoe was one of the first athletes to kneel during the national anthem in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.

And now that the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery have prompted a reckoning with race relations and police brutality across America, many are seeing Rapinoe's gesture in a whole new light.

The US Soccer Federation is among them.

"In an interview with former USWNT star Julie Foudy on her ESPN podcast "Laughter Permitted with Julie Foudy," Rapinoe said she received a phone call from newly-minted US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone — who is also a former USWNT player — to apologize for how the federation responded to her decision to kneel. sorry to have annoyed some readers by my repeated comments, ufortunately not being particularly tech savvy i had not realised my comments had been duplicated, so sorry

Good grief. I though you were going to complain about football players being paid exorbitant amounts or football managers being paid millions of pounds when they get sacked. Now that is something to be disillusioned about. Not bending of the knee. Imo racism in football is something to be concerned about.

You don’t have to apologise we are not all perfect.
I used to support Liverpool in my younger days. I prefer rugby union now that’s sorts the men from the boys.

Jaxjacky Mon 19-Apr-21 20:41:52

Well this proposed Super League, if it happens, will wreck the games.

Casdon Mon 19-Apr-21 20:52:53

I don’t think it will happen, I hope not.

earnshaw I am a football fan, like you. Bending the knee has fans divided. The thing is, it hasn't made one iota of difference so why continue with it? Injustice is everywhere in this intolerant world. Social media has a lot to answer for in this respect. Trolls can post threatening and insulting remarks and get away with it. Alex Scott, the ex-Arsenal and England women's football player is forging a career as a pundit. She knows her stuff but the abuse she has received is unbelievable. Not only is she mixed-race but, heaven help us, a woman!!! She is trying to muscle in on a man's world. How dare she? In my opinion every single one of us, irrespective of colour, religion and beliefs, matter. Sadly, too many in this world don't agree.

Chuffed for Leicester! We met Wes Morgan’s mum a few years ago when we were knocking on doors looking for an address in Nottingham. And a dear departed pal of mine had his ashes scattered in the pitch many years ago. Hope he’s looking down on them smiling!

Riverwalk Sat 15-May-21 20:11:25

And both teams took a knee earnshaw

Just in case you missed it!

Gajahgran Fri 11-Jun-21 11:07:23

Why don't they have another gesture in support of the Kick it out campaign" instead of using the take the knee gesture which I believe indicates support for BLM, a political organisation with rather strange policies. I think that is what the fans are booing not the players themselves.

Grandmabatty Fri 11-Jun-21 11:08:27

You really are a stirrer, aren't you?
