A new me - help please

Unlike Gabriella I have resolved only to buy good quality clothes that look it, and make me feel fabulous.
After watching an article on Victoria Derbyshire last month I want my clothes to last for as long as they make me feel good, which I hope is a long time. More than the average 7 wears that is apparently what research has discovered.
It takes as much water as we drink in 3 years to make a cheap cotton T-shirt. To be fair it may take that much to make a more expensive one but it would proably last longer.
I will always carry a picture of a woman who was breakfasting at the next table to us in that fabulous hotel in Bath. She had beautifully cut hair in a natural colour, blue jeans and a white linen shirt. She looked amazing. Quality screamed out.
That’s what I’m aiming for. It may take a while?

I showered and dressed this morning in old but decent clothes thinking we were going to the local supermarket then DH suggested going somewhere else and laughed when I said 'I must change, can't possibly go there in my Tesco clothes'!

I really should try to look stylish and fabulous all the time.

I cut my own hair this morning. Did the back and all. I quite like it.

I have been following this post with great interest as I don't like to wear dresses, I love jeans and trousers so am quite interested in the idea of trying leggings/jeggings. I love Primark clothes as they are quite cheap and so I don't mind if I only wear them a few times before they are binned. Are Primark leggings/jeggings ok and if so, what's the difference between the two? And because I am quite large in the rear area, I prefer to wear longer length tops to cover it up. Any recommendations as to where I could get these relatively cheap also? A lot of questions sorry but any help would be appreciated.

I like good quality but love a bargain. I like Matalan.
M&S jeggings etc are good imo. Bought them for years.

I have discovered Lagenlook for quirky longer length tops that are not too expensive and Box2 for good quality but more expensive clothes. They both do bigger sizes.

topsy, I love the jewellery on Lagenlook. The clothes are a bit floaty for me but I've signed up for the newsletter.

We have a shop selli g White stuff gilly, so I will try some on next time I am there.

I'm only a small size but Box2 clothes look lovely and not too expensive. I wish they did smaller sizes.

Unfortunately I seem to have become something of of a consumer with a conscience and try to get out of shops now without buying anything that I don’t really need and try to buy things that, hopefully, don’t damage the planet more than they have to.
M&S seem to have started to take the health of our world on board and have some clothing that is going some way to mitigating the damage. hopefully others will follow suit.

Nothing unfortunate about that Pamelaj . It's good. We all buy too much stuff we don't need not just clothes. But I'm always amazed at the very good condition of clothes in our local charity shops. Whatever happened to wearing clothes out?
I have to admit I don't think enough about the planet and I should.

annep1-I mean unfortunate because it’s not so easy. I do buy from charity shops. We have a couple of really good ones around here.
Kitty was asking our opinion about a new look.
My opinion that it is better to look fabulous all the time with a smaller but stylish wardrobe that looks the business.

I’d rather someone said “you look amazing”( doesn’t happen to me often enough but as I said earlier I’m a work in progress!) than “ Oh is that new?”

Hazeld I have bought Primark leggings just to wear about the house and had to buy 16 rather my usual 14 elsewhere, they weren't a great fit. They are of a jersey fabric and pull on whereas jeggings are stretchy denim and have pockets and zip front. I've only bought M&S jeggings but recent ones aren't as good as a 2 year old pair I have.

Money is a bit tight, but we have the original Seasalt shop here in Cornwall, so I buy tops, dresses and jackets from them - they last for ages, and the T-shirts drape beautifully. Have been looking at jeggings, but perhaps not for my thighs! How I have the "mid rise" trousers, they really do exaggerate my "midriff bulge" - Lands End high rise jeans fit well and are excellent quality - they have special offers from time to time, too.

Yes midrise is not good. And sometimes one good pair is better than 3 cheap pairs.
I just reread one post Pamelaj - 7 wears average! That is not good.
Gonegirl- You cut your own hair. Brilliant ?. I spend £40 a month.!

I’ve found a brilliant online site called Kit and Kaboodal. Lots of roomy linen stuff which is great for layering and mainly one-size going up to a size 20 or more.

Kitty you definitely don’t look a 20.

I would try tunics and leggings again as they are easy to wear and hide legs (well they hide mine). Seasalt have some really nice tunics. Do you have a Laura Ashley near you ? They have a good variety of clothes. M and Co, who appear to have a permanent sale on, have some bargains and colourful clothes if you are prepared to look through the racks.

I too hate trying on clothes, all the palaver of getting your kit off, but sometimes needs must.

I have bought a Sea salt dress and some leggings but haven't ventured out yet.

But I will look at the other sites mentioned.

I used to wear loose clothing to cover it all up but my youngest daughter said I should wear more fitted stuff which I think suits me better.

It's interesting that some people favour loose and floaty stuff and some don't. I suspect those that do can cope well with scarves which I can't.

I just dislike shopping these days but rarely buy anything unless I've seen it, touched it, first.
Hence my rather dated wardrobe.
