Face creams with spf in or not

For maximum protection from the sun I think the sunscreen goes over moisturiser on your face Luckylegs.
You can buy it combined - I use a Body Shop one with spf 50 in the moisturiser.

I was unlucky to get skin cancer a couple of years ago - due the oncologist said to being burnt as a child. I am very high risk and always wear 50 factor winter and summer.

It must have both UVB and UVA. UVA being very important.

What I am trying to say is that I think if you are at risk you would be very sensible to use a high factor.

Wrinkles are due to sun exposure but also have a genetic element to them.

Are you sure they are not age spots? If they are, try Boots No 7 cream specially made for age spots. Worked for me.

I’d suspect that if your current creams don’t mention it, they won’t contain any spf. Keep them for night time use or general moisturimg

I would use a special facial SPF, not one for the whole body. You can get moisturisers with SPF and foundations, too, though if they’re spread too thinly, they’re not effective.

That’s why I posted about UVA and UVB.

UVA protection stops radiation penetrating to a deeper level and ageing your skin, which the sunspot has indicated is happening.

You will injure your skin by the sun even through a window and it penetrates cloud cover.

So SPF alone isn’t enough, it has to have both A and B protection to be any good.

The oncologist asked me to take along the sun creams I used and some of them, whilst stopping me burning - UVB did not contain UVA. She told me to stop using them.

I use Claris face sunscreen for sensitive skin.

The advice from dermatologists is to wear sunscreen at all times, whether you consider yourself high, medium or low risk.

I've just checked an old Clarins cream here which I used to apply when living in London and going on the tube. It said it blocked UV and pollution, so I used it regularly. I used to apply it under make up.
It might seem expensive but I think I'll order a new one to save faffing with lots of different potions.

It isn’t tinted btw.

The other thing is that sunscreen has a limited shelf life. Not sure how long but 2 years springs to mind.

I use Garnier Skin Active Day Cream which is SPF 15 during the Spring/Autumn/Winter (I do a lot of cycling), but in the Summer I use a high factor sun cream.

I agree Whitewave. Don’t store in strong sunlight either or it could shorten the shelf life. Although if using every day a 60ml tube doesn’t last me more than 3 ‘ish months.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try that Body Shop cream, Puzzler but the reviews do say that it’s reformulated and not as good, a lot thicker etc. What a shame, the only shop (that was open) that I didn’t go in yesterday was the Body Shop!

I began buying it recently after sun damage treatment to my face so I don’t know what the earlier formula was like.
I just spray a water based apricot spritz on my face, give it a couple of minutes and tissue it off and then rub the Body Shop lotion in.
It works fine for me (I have slightly dry skin).
You can get the small 40 ml one first, in case it isn’t right for you.

Ah, the annual conundrum! I don’t think applying sunscreen or a facial moisturiser containing an spf in the morning is enough. The effect won’t last all day. Think how often we’re supposed to apply cream to the body if exposed to the sun. But if you’ve applied makeup on top it’s not possible to put more spa on the face.

On the days when I think I might be outside for any length of time I use a Factor 50 face product from a brand specialising in once a day application products.

I use La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF50. Excellent product available from Boots.

I have pale skin which freckles and burns so am definitely at risk of skin cancer. I use Simple Age Resist moisturiser SP15 which is cheap, and on top use Clinique City Block SP40 which blocks UVA/UVB rays. I use it summer and winter, and use Simple moisturiser under because city block can be drying, but was recommended by dermatologist.

do you really need to se all these different lotions.
i find aldi. lidl, superdrug, boots do adequate day cream with SPF. also the simple range.
i think the basic ones are much the same as the expensive big names.
lidl and aldi always come out well in blind tests.
i presume OP you no longer sun-bathe.
everyone should use SPF everyday on face and hands.
sun damage is cumulative. and very ageing.

and in summer use a hat, sunshade, or umbrella as i see japanese people doing.

I always cleanse, then apply a serum then an organic moisturiser then a high factor broad spectrum sunscreen...Always always...Every season. And remember to re-apply the sunscreen throughout the day. I always keep a tube in my coat pocket or handbag. I never sunbathe and always wear a hat in the sun...
