bikergran Thu 30-Aug-12 21:35:51

wordpad yes I can posta normal post and it posts ok!! I am puzzled...is it because it is a long thread....I wonder?

That's just what happened to me biker last night, then I couldn't 't remember for the life of me what I 'd written! In the end I hand wrote it and copied it as fast as I could! Think it must have some sort of time limit on an IPad....is it doing it on a PC?

Nanadogsbody Thu 30-Aug-12 22:16:30

Sometimes my iPad does away with the page numbers of a thread and it all appears as 1 of 1. So I have to scroll though hundreds of post if I need to find a specific post. If I come back later it has usually reinstated the page numbers. The worst thread for this was the 'god' one.

hi Grannylin Its funny you should mention the "time limit" as it was taking me a while to write it..I don't really know but it maybe yes.
I wrote it 5 times" grrrrrrr... and 5 times it dissapeared...the 5th time like you lol I typed it as fast as I could but then was called away from the computer (DH) grin! I was then going to compose it by hand, but after writing it 5 times I was loosing a little patience..angry
in the end I wrote it in my email, then copies it to notepad or wordpad then pasted it into the gransnet thread and crossed my fingers..and voila!!! I jsut had a horrible feeling that then all of my 5 posts would appear lol. and every one would read the same views but in a different order, phewww! I'm ready for a stiff wine now lol.

now then!! that msg went with no problem! confused

If its a long one I find it much easier to write it on my computer in a word processing format first and then cut and paste into a forum post. Being a tad dylexic. I am not good at typing accurately or noticing mistakes. Writing by hand is even worse it seems my head can spell but my hands dont quite write it properly.

Joan Thu 30-Aug-12 22:59:19

I do that with log posts, Nelliemoser especially if it is one I've lost once. Second time I do it on word.

Yesterday, I wrote the most brilliant, succinct comment but alas, it was obliterated by the MACHINE. Bravely, I tried again and almost recreated my little gem but alas again, even this glass diamond was snatched away. Now, my muse has gorn and I am back to my normal drivel. Nevertheless, I tried again this morning but not only was my miserable contribution spurned, I was logged out for my pains. I am writing this on my own PC and will cut and paste until my views are heard. We must copy and copy again! We must not let the MACHINE win.

Kind regards, Frankel x

There seems to be a pattern of us being thrown out around about 7.30 am. It happened to me again this morning.

AlisonMA Fri 31-Aug-12 14:14:21

Just a thought, if this happens to you once, the next time before you 'post' it, press ctrl C and then it will be on your clipboard ready to copy back if it is lost. To copy it back press ctrl V. I think with Macs it is the special mac button instead of ctrl but I'm not sure. Good luck

Suggest you write long posts in a separate word processing programme, or an online notebook, save it, select it all, copy it, and then post it on GN. If it disappears you'll still have the original and can try again, and again, and again.....

until you give up.

To prevent frustration, better highlight it all before you press control C!

Tech (GNHQ) Tue 04-Sep-12 11:17:00

Hi, that is a side effect of a security thing. If you don't do anything on the site for a time, it thinks you've gone away and logs you out. You can get round this by clicking the "remember me" box on the login page so that you get logged back in automatically. Separately, we've just lengthened the the timeout, which should help. Let us know if you continue to see this problem. Thanks.

Anagram Tue 04-Sep-12 11:46:44

Sometimes it remembers me, sometimes it doesn't! hmm

jeni Tue 04-Sep-12 12:08:21

Hey folks, tech really exists!
Perhaps father Christmas and the tooth fairy do as well?

AlieOxon Tue 04-Sep-12 12:33:58

No, but the Borrowers do...

Anagram Tue 04-Sep-12 12:59:29
