How to print out a thread

On some threads, it would be really useful to print out the thread as hard copy. Ideally with on thread page following the previous one continuously.

Is there a "printable version" option? If not, could one be introduced pls? Or have I missed something, doh!

If your printer's connected, won't it just print what you're looking at? I've occasionally printed out threads - my 'print' icon is on my toolbar.

Things are a bit better now I've discovered the "Show All" tab so you're not having to print out page by page.

But why is there no "Printable Version" tab as there is, for example, on all BBC web pages.

Then all the framing is omitted and I just get the text. If I was to print out this page, for example, all the "From our Forums" and Latest from Gransnet is a waste of paper and ink with due respect. I want the content of the thread, not the framing margins.

Any hyperlinks go odd too. I end up with masses of cutting and pasting plus editing if I want compact, unwasteful hard copy.. A pain.

Ana do you disagree?

No, I agree entirely, but I've never wanted to print out a whole thread, just the odd snippet of information such as a useful instruction on how to post links!
I suppose with this being the type of forum it is, GNHQ didn't think there would be much demand for a 'printable version' tab.

I see what you mean Ana but I tend to follow, or even start, some threads that tend to generate lists, that I find interesting and want to print out. Eg the one where people are asked to name their five favourite classical composers. That's generated lots of names I've never heard of. And sometimes a favourite work is mentioned. So a printout would be useful, and the shorter and less wasteful of paper (and ink) it is the better!

Ana if you just want to print out a snippet of a thread: click and drag the mouse over the bit you want to print out. This should highlight the bit you want in blue, right click and then click on copy. Open up either notepad or word (I use 'sticky notes' on my desktop)and right click on a new page then click paste....you can then print it out. Hope that helps.smile

Now why didn't I think of that? confused

Thanks, lucid! smile

I too was just going to suggest C&P the bits you want into a word doc!

kittylester Mon 05-Nov-12 14:04:33

Er, use a pen and paper. confused

Could take a while if it's a very long post, kitty! I have jotted notes sometimes, but I always lose them...

I have notepads and pens dotted about the house by all the phones and my computer [smug emoticon] - actually, I have them dotted all round the house because I have a brain like a sieve! sad
