Nexus 7 Tablet

Hi.
I am wondering whether anyone has a Nexus 7 tablet; I have checked through the messages but cannot find any mention of a Nexus.
My problem with it is the battery. Everything I have read through the internet and the manual, states that the battery should last 7 to 10 hours. I am very lucky if I get one hour out of it. I have put the brightness as low as possible, got rid of the wallpaper, and put the setting for it to go to sleep after a short time ~ all to no avail. I had thought the tablet may be defective, but a friend also has the same problem.
Any advice, please.
Thank you,
Trish

It may be a software problem. Have you tried googling the problem to see if others are having the same trouble. If it's in guarantee you could always take it back to the shop as it's not of merchantable quality due to battery problem.

My younger grandson has a Nexus 7. No problem at all with the battery. I would say go back to where you bought it from. Can't be right.

I have a Nexus 7 Trish and don't have problems with the battery. Obviously it depends on how much you use it but I generally charge mine about every other day. Try going to the main home screen then draw down the menu from the top of the screen. One of the icons there will be the battery and if you touch that it will bring up a list if exactly what is using the battery.
Difficult to explain but I hope this may help. Let me know what you find (a PM if you prefer) and we'll see if we can solve your problem

You should certainly contact the vendor of the tablet. Even the heaviest possible use would get more out of the battery than you are achieving. I have a cheaper tablet (Tesco hudl) and can get up to 15 hours from it with normal use.

I have one and it is fine. I read on the online maual that it shouldn't be charged too soon when you first acquire it, you should let it run right down otherwise it 'learns' that it needs topping up sooner. Mine lasts for ages, even though I use it as a kindle as well.

Thank you everyone for your advice.
Brenda ~ I have checked through google, and even found a site for "dummies" ~ really!! The consensus from the comments is not very favourable. Unfortunately, I have now had it for about a year and I understand there is an up-dated one out already.
jinglebell ~ I actually bought it from P C World in Canterbury and should have known better as the kid who served me didn't know the first thing about it!
yogagran ~ It says 57% used by the screen ~ blue line across the screen; 16% media server ~ don't know what that is; then small percentages for the games I play for a total of 89%. It does say above the "screen" 6h 10m 11s on battery. I can leave it charging over night and sometimes it's still not fully charged. I understand you can buy something to help boost the battery, but it's all extra money.
ann ~ Actually, there is a P C World closer to me, next door to Tesco where I am going tomorrow, so shall take the nexus with me and go and see what they have to say ~ that's if I can find someone who knows what they are talking about! Maybe I should just bin it and invest in the Hudl ~ what size screen is that, Ann?
Jane ~ maybe that was my mistake by charging it when first bought, but I couldn't get on it to read the manual ~ whatever happened to the big bulky manuals which came with these things!! I have thought of downloading from kindle, but it seems a waste of time if I can only get through half a dozen pages before the blooming thing needs charging.
Thank you once again, Ladies.
Trish

Don't bin the Nexus 7!!! It is top of the range in tablets. Just tell them the battery is not holding it's charge and you want a replacement.

I've had one for about eighteen months and never had any problems with the battery until last Sunday, when I spent about three hours playing a Mah Jong Solitaire game . This seemed to drain the battery really quickly, but it's been fine since then. (I've only played it in short bursts up till now). I think it's a great little tablet, so wouldn't scrap it, take it back and get some advice.

Trish, it's the internet that drains it fastest, using it as a kindle it lasts for days! Do download Kindle, it's brilliant on holidays and hanging around waiting for people/appointments/whatever.
