How do I change my password etc on eBay?

dogsdinner Thu 22-May-14 10:38:48

Go into 'my ebay'. Then 'account', then personal information and follow the link which is,telling you to,change email.

janerowena Thu 22-May-14 10:40:37

I saw that on Yahoo. It said that Ebay was telling everyone to change their password, but I haven't had any notifications from them. I was wondering if it was a hoax, because if everyone went on it at once it would potentially cause it to crash.

MiniMouse Thu 22-May-14 10:45:41

Janerowena It's been all over the news and you're right about the site potentially crashing! Apparently, this morning it was impossible to change p/w because literally millions of people were trying to do it at the same time.

I think eBay will be really hauled over the coals for such an easy breach of security, not that that really helps its users!

Ana Thu 22-May-14 15:27:41

I didn't get an email from them, but there was a notice when I accessed my e-bay account asking all customers to change their password. Just follow the instructions they give.

glammanana Thu 22-May-14 16:09:57

I couldn't change mine this morning but earlier this afternoon I was able to do so successfully just follow the instructions from "edit" in personal information.

Mishap Thu 22-May-14 16:18:03

I cannot find a "personal information" section and have had to resort to pretending I have forgotten my password - so far the email they have promised to send me in order to do this has not materialised nearly 24 hours later.

bikergran Thu 22-May-14 16:40:25

Mishap go to ebay page.
my ebay
log in as normal
along the top you will see
Activity messages Account applicatiions
hover your mouse over Account
you will see think its third one down
personal preferences
scroll down till you see "password edit* click the edit button and create new password. hope that helps smile

Mishap Thu 22-May-14 16:41:22

Lots of thanks - I have now done it.

bikergran Thu 22-May-14 16:43:12

I've done mine SS well. Thanks for the help.

janerowena Thu 22-May-14 17:55:31

I still haven't had a notification. I shan't bother until I have. having read the risks involved, I can't see that it can harm me, simply because of the way I have my money and things set up. I wonder if people who accepted the offer to tie in their accounts with Paypal might potentially be worst affected - I'm glad I kept mine separate, because I thought that sounded a bit risky.

Brendawymms Thu 22-May-14 18:22:12

I have changed my password for Ebay just in case. Easy to do just need to remember it now!

Ana Thu 22-May-14 18:37:26

janerowena I didn't have any notification either - but the Notice was there when I logged into my e-bay account. They are asking all their customers to change their passwords just as a precaution.

rosequartz Thu 22-May-14 20:25:26

Well, when I tried to reset it they keep telling me my email has expired. But it hasn't.

janerowena Thu 22-May-14 21:19:00

No, it's not there either. How odd. DBH hasn't either.

Ana Thu 22-May-14 21:23:28

Yes, odd - perhaps it is a PayPal issue then.

annodomini Thu 22-May-14 22:39:07

I changed my password as soon as I heard the news although I have not received an email yet. They say that PayPal hasn't been affected. However, I think I will change that one as well.

Ana Thu 22-May-14 22:42:14

I don't think anyone has received an email. The notice is there when you access your ebay account.

janerowena Fri 23-May-14 14:30:05

I did receive an email, just now! It does seem a bit dithery, though. Very half-hearted.

As I use a separate password for eBay, they are welcome to view my earring fetish. grin

Charleygirl Fri 23-May-14 14:33:31

I could not believe how easy is was for me to change my password. That is a first.

janerowena Fri 23-May-14 14:38:06

I have changed it in the past, I know what you man. On some sites you have to copy and paste a huge long line into about the tenth window you come to and then remember the name of your first cousin's second dog.
