More top apps

I'll be the first to admit to the guilty pleasure of Candy Crush. Introduced to it by DS2 and currently on level 178. He has now got tired of it and stopped.

Magic fingers,Doodley and Doodle Dandy are very popular with my lot for train journeys but they can degenerate into angry birds if I don't watch closely

Our two year olds like Babygames, Doodoo Lite, Farmyard, Toca Train, Peppa Paintbox, Old McDonald, Talking Ben, Ginger and Memory Match..

The five year olds like Minecraft, Smelly Cat, Hay Day, TicTacToe, Bridge Construction and Lego Starwars.

My favourites, apart from banking and shopping apps, are Night Sky, Longbow Lite, Tetris, Hay Day (I maintain it for the kids!), Bubble Blaze, Sudoku and Chirp (birdsong identifier).

The EasyJet app is great for flight bookings, easy access tickets and boarding cards and lots more.

We just started using this free application called “Moment Garden” to get real time updates on our new grandson Mark. Our son and daughter in law have created a “Garden” for Mark that is completely private and only available to see by invitation. We get an email everyday with any new photo about Mark or an update about him. It is truly the highlight of my day. We can also add “moments” to Mark’s garden or send comments to him or his parents. It’s a wonderful application, especially important to me because of the privacy. In this day and age I prefer not to have my personal information all over the internet for everyone to see.

Best recipe app for me is CHEF TAP, whichever internet site you are on, you can tap the share button and it will find it even if it is in the middle of an article, put it in your folders, which are easy to organize.
You can also manually write in your recipes and add your own comments.
Absolute gem of an app. I dont use my printed out and handwritten recipe folders anymore now.

Everybody in our family loves Hello Crayon on the Android tablet. You can draw pics with your fingers, with choice of paint, crayon or felt tip, and you can even draw on photos in your gallery. So my two GC love drawing moustaches and devil horns on me, naturally. Keeps them quiet for hours and I've even used it with fractious children on trains, much to parent's relief and gratitude.

i found this one a great source of ideas - many of which were reminders of my own childhood, which had 'faded into the mists...it's called 'Fun Generator' and is linked to the Change4Life initiative - you can enter the number of children you want to involve and whether you want to play inside, or outside. It then generates ideas, with instructions, for a variety of activities. It really is worth a look - there are lots of fun things to do - some for doing at home, others out and about.

My DGC love anything by Toca Boca Toys, the 2 and 4 yr. old's like Nighty Night particularly. I think it is available now on android as well as ipad.
I had a good Sudoku app on my tablet (sadly now defunct).
Ssh. don't tell anyone but I rather liked Bubble Worlds.

For me RecipeBook is great. I deleted the recipes that came with it as not being things I cook, but import recipes from other websites and add my own. I like being able to use or make categories like egg-free etc. and share them. I now have about 200 recipes in it, ones I use.
Thanks for the age-specific apps for tinies, I was looking for those recently.
Now please can anyone give me one for willpower? Trying to lose weight!

My Fitness Pal - keeps the weight under control (mostly....)

Readly - loads of magazines of every sort. It's a subscription (30 days free trial) but you can name four other devices. If you buy magazines, this works out cheaper.

Ahh! I see..thank you. Can I recommend that good old fashioned App Youtube.
I love the 'how to' videos..all manner of things from putting on your eyeliner to making a fancy dress costume to cleaning dirty grouting. Like Consequences they seem to sync with the last one you looked at and offer more possibilities. I learn how to do things whilst drinking my morning tea. Also, as I sing in a choir, I can watch/hear other choirs singing the same piece of music.

If you'd love to be able to find and stream a movie for the kids within seconds from online stream sites such as Amazon, Blinkbox, Google Play and Wuaki without having to scroll through lists over and over again, try this really useful site: https://www.streamsolver.com

Initially, click 'movies' at top of page. Another screen will come up to filter down to further category choices - such as searching in 'Genres', where you can tick 'kids', 'comedy', 'date released', 'animation' and so on - as little or as much as you know or want. Press 'search' at the bottom and you are taken to a list of movies. Click on the movie you are interested in and you are then taken to more details about the film and where it can be obtained by renting, buying or subscription (eg Amazon Prime). From searching to streaming the movie for the kids (or yourselves) the process is simple and quick and all done from one site without having to click back and forwards through long lists.

A straightforward, easy site which also has an Android app for download from Google Play to use on your tablet or phone. Thoroughly recommended!

I know its bad but my DGSs just love the Fart Machine app I downloaded for a laugh.
