How do I open a second hotmail account?

When we first opened hotmail accounts (seems like a hundred years ago!) DH chose rather a silly name for himself not realising that, one day, all communication would be by email and he should at least try to appear like a grown-up, professional person! grin Recently, he has not received replies to sent emails and we have wondered if the silly name has meant his sent mails have gone into the recipient's junk.

I chose a very sensible name of course - in fact my own!!

Apart from using something completely different (eg Gmail) has anyone any ideas how he can set up a new hotmail account which would allow him to have the mail forwarded from one account to the other.

We have tried what seems to be the logical thing to do on hotmail but it keeps telling us that we need to have a 'send only' account. Is that correct?

Please help, or my lap top just might go through the window at high speed. And, why am I doing it for him anyway? sunshine

I'm not sure about hotmail but I do know that gmail had the ability to forward mail to another account. In the meantime why not have two accounts running but only use the preferred one and tell everyone important his new email address. I stopped using my gmail account and after a year very little goes in there Lthough it's still open.
With companies such as Amazon, eBay, banks etc you can edit your profile to reflect new email address.

Yes, I did the same thing....silly name. I just opened a new account and told everyone as you suggested Brenda. Who knows what might be lurking in my old one!!

Kitty I think you'll find that Hotmail is now Outlook, but you can still use your old "hotmail.com/or uk" bit. I've just opened a second account, but it had to be Outlook and did it via setting up an 'alias' as that what it told me to do on Outlook!

The issue I have with it is that, although you then receive emails on the individual accounts, you can't seem to have the 'sent' emails separated into the old and new accounts. I'm waiting to hear from Microsoft 'help' for info on that!

I've probably confused you more than ever with that info, so I'll retreat into the kitchen and stir the dinner wink

Thanks everyone. I realise that Hotmail is now Outlook but we still use our old, and in DH's case, silly Hotmail addresses! grin

I'm awaiting a code to set up an alias Mini so thank you for that. It seems a bit cloak and dagger to set up an alias! Am I right in thinking that one can then get the emails to one account sent to the other. And, am I getting too old for this lark? confused

I hope they don't do any more messing around with Hotmail/Outlook. I'm still using my account set up about 20 years ago, whilst DH has had no end of trouble with his BT email account.

Now BT is saying that as we can't download WE11 as Windows 7 doesn't support it, it's more or less hard luck and he can't access his emails! hmm

I'm blowed if I'm going to upgrade to Windows 8 just to suit BT...mutter, mutter...

Well, I'm still waiting for my code!! Providers do try to make you feel guilty for not understanding or having the latest system don't they!

Kitty No, you're not too old!!! Swirl your cloak around you, brandish your dagger and show 'em what you're made of grin

If I find out how to separate the emails in the 'Sent' box, I'll post again. Don't hold your breath on that one . . . . .

Just received a reply from Microsoft to say that you can't set up a separate 'Sent' box for your two email accounts (main account and alias).

Bum! blush That really is a pain, so I may set up a gmail account & cancel one of the others - more bloody hassle angry

My DD has something called Fastmail which sends everything to her iPhone. Don't know if that might help.

Thanks Stansgran. We get stuff to our android phones as well but it's DH's address that is a bit blush grin

Kitty Can't help thinking there's a moral there for your DH grin
