Transfer from phone to PC

Does anyone know how to transfer your contacts from an android phone to a PC please?

I went into the Vodafone shop and asked them to do it on their little machine and they refused! I called the help line and they said it couldn't be done! I need to do it because the phone has a problem and needs to have a reset and I don't want to lose my contacts. I have managed to transfer all my photos.

If anyone can help I will really appreciate it.

Thanks

I don't know how to transfer them directly (does your phone have a cable to connect it to the PC - if so it should be possible); but if you put contacts into a googlemail account, that can be accessed by an android phone. That means you don't lose contacts even if you lose the phone.

A Gmail account has to be the easiest way I'm sure. It's been simple whenever I've changed phones and all my contacts stay synced to various other devices and the main computer too

Yes, I have the cable and used it to transfer photos and videos but I can't see the contacts on the PC so can't transfer them.

Would I have to key all the info into Gmail? I was trying to avoid doing all that as there are so many.

Good time to get rid of contacts you are no longer in contact with, though, Nonnie.

Done that Annaries, normal part of housekeeping but do have a lot because of moving around so much!

If it is a Samsung you can use their back up programme Samsung Kies (similar to iTunes for Apple). I am sure other brands have similar.

Or you can try a memory card if your phone takes one.

Thanks but the contacts are on the phone not the memory card so I still have the problem. Its not a Samsung.

You can transfer to the sim and go forward that way.

How do I do that? I have tried but cannot find a way. The contacts come all individually shown mixed in with all my email contacts and there seems to be no way to capture and move them

Doesn't sound as if Vodaphone shop very helpful!
Try going to Carphone Warehouse, I find them very good, you don't have to have bought the phone from them.

If it is a smart phone you should be able to download the list of contacts by a USB cable.

The alternative is a pen and paper which is how I did mine before I got my new smart phone. Which you could probably do more quickly than trying to work out how to down load them.

It's taken me a long morning recently to get my first new smart phone to deliver my photos to my laptop.

I could probably now do it more easily than I could explain it.

I think you have to attach/register your phone as a "device" on your lap top and the you can "look" in the memory bits of your phone with your lap top. ????

Oh heck just get a pen and paper. wink grin

Hi, does anyone know how to transfer recent photos from an android Nexus 5, to a laptop.
I do use a USB cable, but each time I try, it seems I have to transfer the whole lot again, so I end up with doubles of everything, cant just do individual ones.

Thanks.

Can you email them to your lap top and then save on desktop. I'm not very technical, but if stuck that's what I'd do. X

You can export your contacts to your usb storage then transfer the file to your PC via a cable.

If you just want to reset the operating system you could copy your address book to usb storage to your sim card, they will not be over written when you reset your phone (you can remove both before you reset to be sure.

If you use an app like Dropbox, they will show up on your PC. I also use Picassa which saves pictures on the cloud (I think) and they turn up on Android phone and tablet as well as my laptop.

Android Desktop Manager is a powerful yet easy-to-use desktop utility designed for content transfer and backup. All of the content stored on your Android phone can be transferred to computer within 3 clicks, including phone contacts, text messages, photos, music, video, apps and other documents. After downloading this software. Follow these steps

1) Install the program and launch it
2) Connect your phone to your PC
3) Get to the program and start to export contacts through this software

Thanks Richard, I'm a bit of a novice but I checked out the various providers of the app and eventually downloaded Airdroid
I can't do anything with it tho as apparently my phone isn't rooted!! A bit to technical for me.
I shall try one of the alternative methods tomorrow
Thanks anyway.
