I was trying unsuccessfully to find a degree symbol on my main computer. Does anyone know any keystrokes I can use to get this symbol please ?

If it's a Mac, you press option 8.

If you're using a Word document look on the toolbar for the "insert" button and choose symbol from the pop-up. I can't remember where in the pages available it is, but you should find it eventually. Good luck!

On the iPad you hold down the nought key to choose 0 or °

thanks when I've never needed it but I now know that works on my phone too smile

Thanks all. Ceesnan I have just found it as you suggested through the Insert icon.

Also WhenIm64 got it on my Ipad too.

Tried it out on my mobile and it worked there too.

I knew I could rely on someone on GN to sort me out. grin

On my Samsung tablet it is on the second page of symbols. I had never noticed it before!

0000° °

Oh yes! On this mini iPad you hold down the zero key and then slide your finger up to the degree symbol that appears above it! Didn't know that. Thanks whenim64.

Holding down the Alt key and typing 0176 on the number pad works for me (on a PC) °

Thanks Ana that works for me too. I like using keystrokes.

For anyone who has not discovered these yet here are a couple of keystrokes I use.

Highlight your text then Control plus no 2 gives you double spacing and Control plus no 5 gives you 1 and a half spacing.

On my main computer if I want a small 1/2 number I type say 45 then leave a space then 1/2 and if you then press the return key it miniaturises the half. Doesn't work on my IPad though. hmm

Thankyou, I didn't know this either.
I spent a couple of minutes with it not working, then realised that I was trying with the letter O instead of the nought. Duh! grin

On Windows operating systems, there is also the Character Map. Symbols can be copy/pasted from this into documents and forum posts.

To open the Character Map on Windows 7 and XP, click the Start button > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.

On Windows 8.1, open a search box and type 'Character Map'. The icon for it will be shown.

Below is a degree symbol copied/pasted from the Windows 8.1 Character Map. A bit tiny but there...

If it's an iPad you just hold your finger on the zero and the ° option types itself.
