Just ordered online a gift for my GS on Amazon and when I had finished I couldn't find an icon to click on to Log Out. Does anyone know if you just simply click off the site ?

I just click out.....after the order confirmation.

Off the top of my head........you could go to 'Your Account' at the top...drop down menu...And log out.

There isn't a prominent 'log (or sign) out' button but there is a way provided. To the right of search box, it says:

Hello your name
Your Account

Hover the mouse cursor over the words and a list of options will open. Down the bottom it says:

'Not your name? Sign Out'.

Click on that.

It would be OK to just leave the site if you are the only person using the computer. If not and you don't log out, someone else could go to the Amazon site and find themselves already logged in and be able to buy things using your account. This being so even if you have closed the browser and re-opened it, or if the computer is shut down and restarted. It's always best to log out.

But why should you click on that if you are 'your name'?

Why don't they give an option to log out properly?

Crumbs, never noticed that, thank you. Luckily only ever use my own laptop so no problem, never ever use 'public' computers but well worth knowing.

Amazon would be able to give a definite answer but I don't really know why it is worded like that. Perhaps it's to say to people sharing a computer, 'this account isn't you', although it wouldn't stop someone using your account if they wanted to of course. Also, in the case of a shared computer people may have different accounts. It could happen that a few people doing some shopping could make a mistake and not use their own account. Maybe it's just an added safeguard against that.

Clicking the option does sign out though. I suppose that's the important thing.

One solution would be not to buy from Amazon!

IBook, impossible not to buy from Amazon when you live in a back water !!

Stupid Kindle that should be Noooo, not book.

I have a kindle, nina, and have not bought anything for it since I learnt about how Amazon is fleecing HMRC.
For anyone who has any other ereader, there is a book store called Hive, which is your local bookshop. If you order anything from Hive it can be delivered post free to your local book shop, or to your house, post free, if you do not have a book shop.
I ordered a book for my son's birthday from the Book People, then discovered I could have saved a fiver if I'd ordered it from Hive. Serves me right. Hive also keeps your local book shop going.

Thanks everyone and Rider I will follow your clear instructions.

I had the 'signing out' problem just a couple of days ago and DH gave same advice as Rider. Like Ana, I would like to know why Amazon don't give an option to log out properly. It really bugged me having to pretend not to be 'me' in order to escape.

henetha Mon 19-Jan-15 10:07:17

This has bugged me for ages too. I do like to sign out properly and it's not easy on Amazon.
As for not buying from Amazon, I actually like them in every other way
so shall continue even though I feel irritation every time I leave their site!

Didn't just mean books durhamjen I have to shut my mind to the HRMC business. As I buy a variety of products from them. Even if I do click and collect for some stores it's a 20mile minimum round trip to collect.
I only 99p down loads for my kindle books.
