I would like to download the game Scrabble to play on my computer.
Does anyone know of a company they would recommend.
When I did a google search it came up with so many companies, I have no idea which would provide a good download

Is it an Apple Mac? I download Scrabble from the AP store for £2.99 several years ago and it has always worked fine. x

I have a PC not MAC.

It's ages since I played Scrabble on a PC but I used one by Gamehouse.

They are all totally rubbish to be honest Ceesnan . I have downloaded what is supposed to be the licensed version for my iPad. I am a terrible sleeper and I thought I could play against the computer. Only problem is the computer "opponent" cheats and uses words and abbreviations not allowed in scrabble (and they certainly don't appear in any dictionary) It uses foreign words too so you have little chance of winning (if you care) it does get on my nerves a bit.

Should have added that it is the official Mattel version. Don't get me wrong the format is good, but very frustrating .

There are aps which allow you to play with other people. They will link you up with strangers if you don't know anyone to play with. They all use slightly odd dictionaries but you just get used to them.

I have the Mattel app on my apple devices - hardly use the laptop any more but I think that is what I have there too. Some very strange words...

I pay scrabble and another word game on Facebook and that is free -you can play up to 30 games at any one time.

I have something called BETA smart little games on line for scrabble on my pc which I play from time to time in the evening if I lose interest in what's on tv. I always beat the computer because it doesn't play strategically, not using the triple/double word/letter squares when the opportunity arises. Annoyingly it's American English so our spelling is not recognised. Like others here have said, my pc will throw up strange words and random foreign words, but not more common foreign words that occur frequently. Shockingly it will use a very rude word or two on occasions!

Thank you all for your replies, it does sound like none of the Scrabble games are the same as the one I played many years ago.

It was a game which we could play at different levels either with others or against the computer.
English spellings not American very straight forward.
Not sure what to do now.

Even Scrabble has moved on, I suppose. But it is still challenging, still lots of levels.

I tried the Scrabble on Facebook but the other players took so long to move their pieces it annoyed me so I gave up.

I have the iPad Scrabble app too Gillybob and play against my sister, which we both enjoy, and we can "talk" to each other while we're playing using the chat button. Sometimes I play against the computer too, and then it does get interesting with the strange words it comes up with!

I play a version of scrabble from Just Words. It's free but uses American spellings and words and some English words not allowed. That aside it's not bad and you can choose the level to play, can play the machine or solo.

Gillybob, Ariadne - I think I have the same version on my iPad. (The free one?) I suppose you get what you pay for. I pretty much ignore what the computer puts - silly made up words, but it has improved my own game no end. DH always like to play against me (he only plays when on holiday) as he always usually won. But not any more. Now he doesn't want to play!

Words with Friends is free and quite user friendly. It's an ipad app. It does use American words though. It's fun to play with people you know. I prefer it to real scrabble as you can just make a move and get on with something else.
