I've been reading that mobile phones can be 'infected' in some way. I'm not sure if mine has been or not. How can I tell?

Jane you have to run a scan on your phone, as you would do for a computer. Have a look here:

I wouldn't have known this BTW, my daughter sorted it for me on my Samsung when I thought my phone was infected.

I guess you can download one from the app store.

You need good virus etc software on mobile phones too. I have McAfee on mine.

Does it have any spots?

Jane10 Tue 12-Jul-16 07:03:02

Er no roses but I seem to have some odd news items on the BBC news site. They look like adverts to me.

You mean strange things like 'tomorrow we will have a new PM' and 'Labour Party Could Split' grin Yes, your phone certainly is infected!

No its stuff about 'simple tricks to lose body fat' and 'news' about pokemon games. Very odd.

The Pokemon stuff could be genuine - it featured on R4 news this morning.

What mobile phone do you have Jane

meandashy Tue 12-Jul-16 10:03:12

You get ads on all phones. To be on the safe side don't click on them! Some are data capture scams but adverts are normal on social media these days ☺

My husband's mobile was infected last week. When a strange message came up about damage to his meory card, he switched his mobile phone off. He took it to the O2 shop where they took out the memory card and re formatted it. He said it was full of junk and that he lost nothing because it was all on his computer anyway.

I don't get ads on my mobile phone dashyand have never done anything to stop them ...

I've never played any games at all on any device!! I have a Nokia Lumia phone which seems to have Microsoft security on it. Maybe what I saw on the BBC news site was actual real news. I saw some of the items I assumed weren't real in the newspaper this am. Think I must have overreacted! Thanks all.

Glad I have never had a mobile

I bought a very simple mobile phone yesterday for the bedroom, on the advice of the fire officer, seemed sensible. We have another which sits in the car, used only occasionally, and I had forgotten how to top it up. The young man in the shop did this for me, copied all the info on to the new sim card (no idea what that is!), did the same for me for the new one, which will sit in the bedroom, and like the one in the car, only used for emergencies. We do mainly e-mails and land-line calls. The young man was brilliant, well I think so, however, when it came to folding up the instructions for the new phone (which I had asked him to look at with me), he had no idea how to do that, left that to clever old me.

The BBC website yesterday had an article entitled something like 'one weird old trick to lose belly fat' which was a genuine article. The title is based on a pesky advert that frequently appears on other websites but it's actually about an experiment carried out by Dr Michael Mosley about the best way to reduce visceral fat (around your abdomen). I too thought it was strange, and opened it with some trepidation, but it wasn't a scam or a virus.

Phew! Thanks Trish

Jalima Tue 12-Jul-16 20:07:11

I read the OP and assumed you meant your sheep had been infected with something Jane10

Jalima Tue 12-Jul-16 20:07:26

Just the title, I mean grin

Jane10 Tue 12-Jul-16 21:10:34

Don't worry my flock of sheep are fine. Regular dipping does the trick for them!

Jalima Tue 12-Jul-16 21:18:44
