Kindle on last legs

My kindle fire is also on its last legs. It is very slow and I get messages every day about critically low storage.
I had a birthday recently and bought myself a Samsung tablet with which I am very pleased. I will use the kindle just for reading books.
Sorry that doesn't answer your question about kindle, but mine didn't seem to last very long.

I use a Kindle Voyage for reading, which I do a lot of, and absolutely love it. For any other tablet-type requirements, I use an Asus Zenbook.

My kindle seems to need rebooting every time I download a new book. Nor does it recognise the wifi in the house and won't accept the password. I suspect it's embarrassed by the trash I'm reading at the moment to cheer me up( 72 this week) I know , I know ,better than the alternative but I've just seen the holiday photos. And no one could ever accuse me of being vain.

I read my kindle paperwhite every day an I hardly ever charge it up. It's brilliant. I have an iPad for tablet use.

My first Kindle was just an ereader, the second, my current Kindle Fire HD was a gift and is about 5 or 6 years old so I reckon it doesn't owe me anything as it is in constant use. It's charged every night as the data is used very frequently and runs down the battery.

The reason I'm looking towards another Kindle is that I understand all my current info is pretty much automatically transferred across, up and ready to go. Also, until recently it was very reliable. At present I'm rebooting continuously (often unsuccessfully) - I'll reach it to dh this morning and ask him to use it, second opinion

We have a desk top computer that is still in daily use.

Hmm... I daresay I could use the old ereader for my books when in the house.

The Kindle also costs very little compared to an ipad.

I wonder whether Kindles have had their day (unless as preference for reading). I find that mine lies around unused because my first stop for Googling or going online generally is my *smartphone (*just realised that the word "telephone" is probably redundant now) ... it's just so much easier on the phone and the screen is a good size.

I have gone back to reading books that are "page turners" in the literal sense of the word.

GK, I find the Kindle ok and would readily use it for 'searching' etc. Easier as the screen is much bigger than my iphone 6. Phones are passed to myself and dh as the dc upgrade

The books are synched between phone and kindle which is really convenient, can continue reading on phone when having to wait somewhere.

I must admit I'm an iPad user-the mini version. DH bought me a Kindle some years ago and it's languished in a drawer ever since, just couldn't get into it as I already had iPhone so was used to Apple systems. I've installed Kindle app on my iPad for reading so everything is on one device, though I must admit I use my phone for pretty much everything as I have a 6plus with bigger screen.

coolgran that sounds good, I didn't know you could sync books from Kindle to phone ... learn something new every day.

Another thing, if you have an Alexa Dot or Echo, it will read any books you have on Kindle. Can't remember how I found that out!

Katek, I had no idea until I read your post that there is a kindle ap for iPad. Thanks for that!

Coolgran - is it easy to synch your kindle and phone? I have inadvertently set my kindle account so that all the books I've bought in recent months are on my phone and not on my kindle. I can't find them to read on the phone and want them on my kindle.
Grannyknot - my phone is definitely not my first choice for googling, my laptop is. I don't like the touch screen.

Whenever I have had trouble with my kindle I reset it by pressing the on/off button for about 60 seconds. It might reboot itself when you have done it but this normally resolved any issues I have had , also works on hobbies hudl too.
Worth a try at least for those of you who are having trouble.

I'm wondering if the actual Kindle battery is needing replaced. Left it with our local happy (cheap) repair guy who is going to look at it. He says it sounds like battery, will see, if it's over £25 he won't fix it - better to buy a new one. Should know within a couple of days.

GrandmaM - It was really easy to synch Kindle and phone.

With regard to the books going to your phone and not to Kindle..... try going to your Amazon account, go to your Orders which is a drop-down under 'Your Account' . Open your Orders and choose a book you have bought.

Over to the right there is a box which says 'contents and devices'. Click on this box and it will take you to a new page which lists all the books you've bought. Choose a book.

To the left there are two boxes, the first one says Select, click on this box. Then click the box beside it which says 'Actions'.

This will open a box which says 'Devices Selected'. To the right is a little arrow - click on it and it will drop down your different devices. Click in the box beside the device you wish the book to go to, i.e. Kindle.
Over to the right a yellow box should say 'deliver'. Click on this and hopefully it will send the book to your Kindle.

I'll be interested to hear if you get the book/s resent to your Kindle.

This might sound complicated but go step by step, it's really straightforward.

Nanabilly - I'm a great fan of the reboot but unfortunately it wasn't a solution in this case. However, it often is a solution

I have a basic kindle and a kindle app on my ipad mini but find it easier to read on the kindle as it is much lighter to hold.

I also prefer books when I can get them at a reasonable price but even second hand are a minimum of £3.80 for postage whereas there are lots of kindle books at £1.99 ( I mostly buy kindle detective series for light reads). Our local charity shops mainly seem to go in for Barbara Cartland type romance which don’t appeal to me. I also use the library (which is shortly closing).

I have had a Kindle Paperwhite for about 4 years, which is in regular use - it is solely for reading and is so much better than my DH's Kindle Fire for this function as there is no screen glare, making it just as easy to read in bright sunlight as a printed book.
I also have an iPad mini (which I won two years ago on GN!), which is equally good for reading. I have no experience of other tablets, but if you want to be able to read outside, then you can't go wrong with either of these.

I love my Kindle Paperwhite too.
It’s easy to adjust the screen brightness so if I’m reading late at night I can turn it right down so it doesn’t keep me awake.
We go away a lot so it’s great not having to pack a lot of books and it’s easy to load another book when alive finished what I’m reading.
The books are on my phone too and easy to read from there.
The other thing is that books can be shared with family members so they are all on MrA’s kindle too.

DH bought himself a Kindle fire HD 8 inch. I like it better than mine, the keyboard is miles better.

Nothing as good as a kindle paperwhite for reading in bright sunshine especially by the pool on holiday .I just love mine though I read plenty of proper books as well . Looking at the storage space we have now for proper books I think kindle books are the future . How many hours a day are you reading Suzied if you hardly ever charge it ? I like to keep mine topped up.
