Weird Windows 10 Login Issue

(20 Posts)
lavelci Sat 17-Mar-18 07:44:29

The computer refuses to accept my initial password. I am sure the password is correct as I never changed it.

P.S the issue happened after recent update.

Check your Caps lock.

Caps lock is fine as well as keyboard.

I've got Gransnet Forums saved to Favourites and I never log out.

Is it ok to stay logged in permanently? (I've no idea what my password is!)

Need to be clear exactly which password you are referring to. Is it the Miscrosoft Windows10 password that Windows!0 asks for when you first logon, or your gransnet password ( or is it another one ?)

If it is the Microsoft Windows10 one, this can be reset, refer to this site. (this should be a last resort)
support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028457/windows-10-reset-your-local-account-password

You should also be able to reset your Microsoft password from another PC, this is a safer option.

It is a local account. Not MS

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no way to reset a forgotten local account password. You have to reset your PC, but you will lose all data etc. If you end up having to reset, I suggest you set up a Microsoft password for Windows 10, that can be reset without losing your data.

Just had another thought. If you are sure you know the correct password, it could be a keyboard problem. You should be able to login to the setup menu at startup. You can then type in your password and check that the keyboard is returning the correct characters. There are settings that can reconfigure the keyboard and cause password problems. The num lock key often incorrect characters, If it is a desktop PC, you could try another keyboard.

Generally speaking , the computer won't change after updating , if you'r sure you don't forget the login password , Maybe the password has failed, what you need to do is remove the old password from Windows 10 and create a new password .

I had the same problem with my computer refusing to accept the password I always use to log on after a recent Microsoft update.

I was able to solve it because DH also is a user on my laptop and I was able to log on as him and change my login password. It took three or four attempts and drove me nearly mad in the process.

I did find some helpful advice on the internet, but forgot to write down where, completely idiotic of me, as I shall probably need it again sometime

@Vrasder how can I remove the password?

@grandtanteJE65 only an admin and guest account on that computer

It's possible that the keyboard layout changes after installing updates, and you can change it back:
winaero.com/blog/set-default-keyboard-layout-windows-10/

Use the on-screen keyboard utility to type your password. That utility is available at the login screen.

If you still can't log in, the following freewares and tips could be of help:

www.lifewire.com/reset-windows-password-using-linux-2202068

The next time make sure you write the new password down on a paper.

Against all advice, I write all my passwords into a note book.
Have never used password to get into Windows, even though Win 10 forces it on you it can be made an invisible background task, so in effect logs you in automatically.
I have currently 4 computers and none require a password to open.
If you have forgotten your Win 10 password and need to get in, then create another one.
Simply press Windows logo key + X on your keyboard to open the Quick Access menu and click Command Prompt (Admin). To reset your forgotten password, type the following command and press Enter. Replace account_name and new_password with your username and desired password respectively.

Check your keyboard or press the cap locks and try your new password, sometimes people forget and have their caps lock on when setting up new password.that's why they can't log on to their computers.
If you are sure that the password you entered is 100% correct, recall that your computer has been used by others? As i guess the login password may has been changed, otherwise the computer should not have rejected a correct password.
Recommend methods:
On your Windows 10 computer,do you have another user accounts?MS account/Super admin account/Guest account? With any one of these accounts, you have a 100% chance of recovering the password or remove it.

It is an old thread, and i read all the comments above,i'm also curious as to why the computer didn't accept a "Correct password",the only reason is that the computer decides that the password is wrong,if this is your personal computer,i guess it is been hacked or maybe the password was actually changed. Then again, how to fix this problem?
