Problems after retuning TV and Humax

Last Wed, there was a retuning reminder on the TV screens. Since we have done this, to both the TV and Humax, our recordings are playing back at vastly increased sound levels. It appears to be BBC 2 recorded programmes. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just us ?

As you are probably aware, the Humax Freesat box has its own volume control that is quite separate and independent from the TV's volume control.

It is possible that following the re-tuning, the Humax has defaulted to its Factory Setting for the volume level. I am unable to think of a reason as to why your problem would affect BBC2 recordings only.

Hope this is of some help.

I have a Humax Freesat box connected to a Samsung TV. I keep the volume on the satellite box turned up to full volume, and operate the volume via the TV remote. The volume on my Humax box is useless if I just use that. I never record anything on it, as I am quite happy to watch catch-up on the TV.

I think experience with Humax (and other similar devices) teaches us to adjust the Humax volume to match that of the TV when viewing programmes from other sources (HDD recorder; DVD player, etc) so that constant re-adjustment of sound level becomes unnecessary.

I'm surprised that you retuned the Humax box. It's the only electronic device that I leave on standby overnight because it takes automatic updates. Did it ask to be retuned? I must have missed it. I retuned the Samsung TV.

The Humax box is an awkward little devil isn't it? One wrong button press on one of 3 remotes and all sorts of strange things happen. And don't get me going on subtitles that come up only on playback or sometimes it switches to analogue tv (blank screen) and it's always the ‘other’ remote that is the one with the digital/analogue switch.

I agree about sound level problems too. If only there was an overall control that could keep the sound levels even, no matter what the TV channel, whether the Humax is in use or not and whether or not adverts are playing. It's not just the Humax, together with the TV and sound system, they just don't play nicely together!

Many thanks for the replies. I hadn't caught up with GN for a while, and I was sewing all day yesterday. Our Humax seems to be OK now, and no I didn't know it did an auto update, if left on standby. DH has twiddled and fiddled and the sound level of recordings seems now to be normal. Until the next time!!

I find that I have to adjust the TV volume as well as the Humax until they even up.
